“Everything” You wanted to know about Ravenwood…
HOURS – School begins at 7:25. Students are to be in their
classrooms at 7:25 when the tardy bell
rings. Dismissal is at 2:32 p.m. On Focus Days, school is dismissed at
12:05 p.m. Half-day dismissal is
at 11:05 a.m.
TARDIES – A student is considered tardy if he arrives after
7:25 a.m. If a student arrives at school less
than 10 minutes late, he should go directly to 1st period, unless he has
an excused note from a
parent/guardian. In that case, the note is taken to Student Services. If
a student arrives at school more
than 10 minutes late, he must report to Student Services. He should have
a note from a parent/guardian
and present it to the Student Services office. The student will sign in
and be given a note to enter class.
Arrival after 10 minutes without a note from a parent will be considered
skipping.
ABSENCES – Parents need to call Student Services (472-4805) by
10 a.m. on the day of the absence.
Parents are to send a note to school the day following the absence. If
parents do not send in a note AND
make contact by phone, the absence will be considered unexcused. Excused
absences may be granted for
illness of the student, illness in the immediate family requiring the
student to be absent, death in the
immediate family, religious holidays. Absences for other reasons may be
excused if, in the judgment of
the principal, the circumstances warrant.
Because every school day is important, absences for reasons other
than illness are discouraged. Please
plan family trips during scheduled school vacation times. If you are
unable to avoid a conflict, the student
must take a note from his parent, detailing the date and reason for the
requested absence (e.g., family
trip, family event at another school, extracurricular competition). The
note must be taken to Student
Services at least ONE WEEK prior to the requested absence. Failure to do
so could result in the request
being denied. The administration will look at the student’s attendance
record, as well as academic
performance, to decide whether or note to grant the request. Only those
students who have at least a
95% attendance rate and are passing all classes can expect to be
excused. Unexcused absences will
result in a zero in the class(es) that are missed that day.
This is only a brief description of the absentee policy. Please see
the Student Handbook for
additional information or contact Student Services at 472-4805 with
questions.
EARLY DISMISSALS – Early dismissals will be granted for
doctor’s visits. At the beginning of the school
day, the student is to bring a note from a parent to Student Services.
The note should indicate the time
of dismissal and reason for the dismissal. All notes are verified with a
parent by telephone before granting
the dismissal. Early dismissals for other than doctor’s visits need to
be arranged in advance.
EMERGENCY CONTACT – The Health History and Emergency Form is
used to reach you in case your
student has an emergency need. Please list every number – including cell
phones and pagers – than can
be used to contact you. If a phone number changes during the school
year, please call the Counseling
Office (472-4806) so we can note the change on your student’s form.
BUS TRANSPORTATION – Bus route information is available on the
Williamson county Schools website
(www.wcs.edu). Click on the School Bus
for bus routes and school zones. Additional information can be
obtained by calling the Transportation Department at 472-4950. If your
student needs to ride home on a
different bus, a note from a parent must be sent in the morning and
turned in at Student Services. A bus
pass can then be issued. Bus drop off and pick up is at the front
entrance to the building.
LUNCH – Lunch tickets are $2.25 and ala carte items are priced
individually. The lunch menu is posted
on the WCS website.
DELIVERIES TO SCHOOL – While we realize that students
occasionally forget an item at home, we
encourage parents to allow their students to take responsibility for
their own things. If you need to drop
off a forgotten lunch or homework, please deliver it to Student
Services. Your student will be notified for
pick up. Since it is very disruptive in a classroom, we discourage
delivery of flowers, balloons, birthday
cakes, etc. to students during the school day. Please note that all such
deliveries are kept in Student
Services until the end of the school day and that glass containers are
not allowed on school buses.
MEDICATIONS – Students MAY NOT bring medication of ANY KIND to
school. This includes headache
remedies such as Tylenol and Advil. This is in accordance with the WCS
Zero Tolerance Drug Policy.
Parents must hand carry any medication to the Clinic (located in Student
Services) and fill out a form. If
the medication is a prescription drug, the form must also be signed by
the doctor. Over-the-counter
medication must be in a new, unopened container. Prescription medication
must be in the labeled
prescription bottle.
SCHEDULE CHANGES – The last day to change classes is August 26
(1st semester) and January 20 (2nd
semester). Please see the Assistant Principal to discuss changes.
DRIVER’S PERMITS – In order to obtain a driver’s permit in the
State of Tennessee, a “Certificate of
Compulsory Attendance” letter is required from the school. This letter
may be obtained from Student
Services. Requests need to be made about 2 days in advance since grades
and attendance must be
verified prior to issuing the letter. The letters are only good for 30
days.
DRIVER’S EDUCATION – Driver’s Education is offered each
semester and in the summer. Specific
information will be announced prior to sign-up.
LOST AND FOUND – Lost and Found is located in Student
Services. Students are encouraged to check
this periodically. Unclaimed items are cleaned out 3-4 times a year and
donated to charity.
PARKING – Students are to part in the designated Student
Parking lot which is located directly behind
the school or to the right of the football practice field. Cars parked
illegally will be towed at the student’s
expense.
USE OF TELEPHONES – There is a telephone in Student Services
available for students to use if they
need to call home during the day. Students who are ill must check in at
the Clinic before phoning home.
It is available between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Use of cell phones during
school hours is strictly prohibited and
will be confiscated.
PTO – Ravenwood High School has a very active Parent Teacher
Organization. The PTO publishes a monthly newsletter
which is distributed to all Ravenwood families.
