Progress Reports

Progress reports were sent home on Tuesday with students and progress reports are being mailed to parents of students with Ds or Fs at progress time.

 

Woodland Middle Book Drive

Every Year, Woodland Middle School does a Charity Book Drive during their Fall Book Fair, the week after Thanksgiving.  This year, we need YOUR help!!  We will be collecting new and gently used teen/young adult books for the Monroe Carroll Children's Hospital from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4.  To participate, drop a book or two in the Ravenwood Library - or drop by the Woodland Book Fair!  We are open until 3 PM every day Nov. 30 - Dec. 4, plus Thursday night from 5 to 7. Thank you for your support!

 

Sponsor a Yearbook for a Student

Please contact Natalie Marbury, yearbook advisor, if you are interesting in sponsoring a yearbook for a student who might otherwise be unable to afford one. 

 

Financial Aid Night

RHS will hold its annual Financial Aid Workshop on Monday, December 7th at 7:00 PM in the RPAC.  This program will be incredibly beneficial for parents of seniors – especially those who aren’t experts in filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is coming up in January – but parents of underclassmen are encouraged to attend, as well.  Presenters include a financial aid officer at a major Tennessee university and a representative from the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (Lottery Scholarships).  If you’d like more information on how to secure financial aid for your future college student, be sure to attend this informative presentation

Parade of Homes Tours

The 6th Annual Holiday Home Tour will take place this year on Sunday, December 6th, from 1:00 until 5:00 pm.  All proceeds will benefit the Ravenwood Class of 2011.  Order forms are available on the school's website (http://www.wcs.edu/rhs/students/forms/home_tour.doc), or you can contact any junior class student council member to order tickets.  Tickets are $10 each.  The Home Tour is a fun afternoon filled with holiday spirit and decorating ideas.  Don't miss it!  Questions?  Please contact Pam Clark (pamwboys@comcast.net) or Leigh Rankin (mom247@comcast.net).  Thanks for your support!

 

Cafeteria Announcement

Starting November 30th the cafeteria will no longer allow students to “charge” for their meals.  We apologize for any inconvenience, but this privilege has gotten out of hand already.  Please call Arthur Ley, the cafeteria manager, if there are any questions.  472-4807.

 

Attention Parents of AP Students

This year’s AP exams will be administered during the weeks of May 3 – May 14, 2009. Tests will take place at Judson Baptist Church. Ravenwood Students taking AP classes this year should turn in their registration form, fees, and permission slip to Janice Litvack by November 30th. Please see Mrs. Travis in the counseling center if you have questions.

FCA Guest Speaker

Fellowship of Christian Athletes will meet tomorrow (Friday) at 6:50am in the RPAC.  Former RHS teacher, Ms. Weimer, former RHS teacher, will be our guest speaker.  Everyone is invited!

 

Calling all future Raptor Cheerleaders!!

WHAT:  A clinic for anyone interested in learning a cheerleading routine and cheerleading skill!!

WHEN: December 6, 2009  @  2pm – 5pm in RHS Gymnasium

WHO: Anyone in kindergarten – 6th grade interested in attending a cheerleading clinic provided by RHS Varsity Cheerleaders.

COST: $35 per person (includes a T-Shirt and snack!!)

After the clinic on Dec. 6th all girls are invited to perform at a RHS Varsity Basketball game during halftime.  The game is on Wednesday, December 9th at Ravenwood High School.  Please arrive no later than 7pm on December 9th.

Math Tutoring

Math tutoring will be available after school on Tuesdays in room D106.  Ms. Herrin and Ms Buerstetta will be available from 2:45 - 3:45 p.m.

Hockey News

The undefeated Ravenwood hockey team has reason to celebrate after their commanding 4-1 win over Brentwood Wednesday night, ending the Bruins undefeated record.  Contributing goals were Brad Davis, Alex Doane, Nick Haggarty, and Michael Bradbury.  The Coach and the team would like to thank the RHS students for their unbelievable support and turn out.  You were the 7th man and helped claim the victory!  The Raptors are now 5-0-2 for the season. 

 

Swimming Results

The Swim Team won their meet last night against Brentwood HS 304 to 252. The Ravenwood boys tied with Brentwood boys 138-138 and the Ravenwood girls beat the Brentwood girls 164-116.  Congratulations to all the swimmers for a great job.

A representative from Vanderbilt’s AmbassaDORES program (and a recent RHS grad) will be here during all homerooms on Monday, November 23rd to answer questions and give more information about Vanderbilt.  Interested students should come to the Counseling Center during their homeroom or lunch period on Monday.

Contests

United Nations Association Essay Contest: open to 9th-12th graders. 1st place winner receives a $1,500 scholarship and a trip to New York in March 2010. Other awards of $500-$1000. To enter, visit www.unausa.org/essay2010. Entries must be submitted by January 5.

John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest: For students grades 9-12. Must compose an original and creative essay of less than 1,000 words (about 4 pages) that demonstrates an understanding of political courage as described by JFK in Profiles in Courage. Use at least 5 varied sources to describe and analyze the decisions, actions, and risks of an elected public official in the US since 1956 who has courageously addressed a political issue at the local, state, national, or international level. Princeton Prize in Race Relations: For students in grades 9-12 who are actively involved in a volunteer activity in the last twelve months that has had a significant, positive impact on race relations in his or her school or community. Williamson County Junior Miss 2011:  America’s Junior Miss gives thousands of young women across the nation opportunities to earn money for college.  Since 1958, AJM has awarded more than $90 million in scholarships.   Young women participating in the program are evaluated on interview, talent, scholastics, fitness, and self expression.  Current juniors are invited to participate in the program for 2011.  If interested, visit www.ajm.org and click “Join Us!” and email Jill Dilday at jill_dilday@hotmail.com.

Summer Programs

Phillips Exeter Academy Summer School in New Hampshire will host more than 500 students (grades 9-12) from July 4 – August 7, 2010 for five weeks of academic study, athletics, and exploration that carry participants far beyond the classroom and the playing fields. Cambridge University in England will offer a summer program in academics & leadership. Over 65 courses will be available, along with excursions to London, Stonehenge, Warwick Castle, Stratford-upon-Avon, and sports & evening activities every night. Test Preparation Classes

Mary Lee Bunch & Associates will offer a prep course for the December 12th ACT on four Thursdays from 2:45-3:45 at RHS. Dates are November 12, 19 and December 3, 10. Cost is $80. Interested students can pick up a registration sheet in the reception area of the Counseling Center.

RHS Blankets

Your Holiday Shopping is Made Easy!  TEAM 2013 is offering Polarfleece blankets with "Ravenwood High School" and the raptor head logo engraved into the blanket. The blankets are oversized (50 x 60) and super plush. They are great for bedrooms, sporting events and will make a great Christmas/holiday gift.
