• Sunset Elementary School is a student-focused community of learners. 
• Our purpose is to provide the foundation for continued and independent learning. 
• Each student is a valued individual with unique physical, social, and intellectual needs which will be met through a variety of instructional approaches. 
• Students are entitled to a safe environment in which to learn. 
• Parents, family, and community are vital to the success of Sunset Elementary. 
• Student engagement is essential to learning; education is best achieved when students: 
  • Become involved in experiences that are meaningful to their lives.
  • Know exactly what is expected of them.
  • Feel free to explore new ideas without fear of failure for initial learning.
  • Are given the opportunity to work as a team.
  • Have a choice in how they will express their knowledge/learning.
  • Are presented with goals that are challenging yet attainable. 
• We are data-driven: continual assessment provides student, parents, and teachers the tools necessary to adapt instruction and enrich learning.

Sunset Elementary School's Goals

The  School Improvement Plan guides our school's goals.  Sunset Elementary has chosen the following as our SIP goal for this year:
All students, kindergarten through fifth grade, will show at least one year's growth in reading.
