Library Policies

Philosophy
The Sunset Library provides  materials and resources to support the curriculum and encourage the love of reading.  Our goal is that students will become independent library users, users of information, and life long learners with a love of reading.
Hours
Students   M -- F     8:45 am -- 3:15 pm
Library Visits
Each class has a scheduled time to receive library instruction, return books and select new ones.  Individual students may come throughout the day with teacher permission.  Teachers may schedule flexible time slots for classroom research assignments.
Checkout
Students in Kindergarten and First grade may check out one book for two weeks.
Students in grades 2-6 may check out two books for one week.
Students have daily access to the library and may come each day for a new book with teacher permission.  Books may be renewed for two additional times  and then must be returned for others to enjoy.
Damaged Books
Please return damaged books to the library for repair.  Accidents can and do happen.  Pets chew books, younger siblings redesign them, snack boxes leak, etc.  Books damaged beyond repair must be replaced.  A damage bill with replacement costs will be sent home.
Should a page accidentally rip, please return to the library and we will repair the page with  special tape.
Overdues
There is not a fine for overdue books.  However, if a student has an overdue book, checkout privileges are denied until the book is returned.
Lost Books
Books that have not surfaced in 30 days are presumed to be  lost.  An overdue bill with the cost of replacing the book will be sent home.
