Meet the Director
Abbey Francis serves as the Director of Choirs at Sunset Middle School and holds her Bachelor of Music degree for Music Education with a vocal emphasis from Belmont University. While at Belmont, she also studied classical percussion and has had the privilege of being under the direction of Dr. Jeffery Ames, Dr. Jane Warren, Dr. William Caldwell, and Dr. Christopher Norton in their respective ensembles, Chorale, Oratorio, and Percussion Ensemble. Additionally, she has studied orchestral conducting with Kelly Corcoran and has performed as a member of the Nashville Symphony Chorus under the direction of Giancarlo Guerrero, James Conlon, Nicholas McGegan, and Matthew Halls. Her additional training as an educator comes from her teaching opportunities as a front ensemble and percussion technician for Harpeth High School from 2009 to 2013. She currently performs with local ensembles and is the soprano section leader and soloist at Church of the Advent in Brentwood, Tennessee.
Chorus is a year-round ensemble whose goal is to provide opportunities for students to perform literature from a variety of genres, time periods, and vocal styles with stylistic accuracy. In the rehearsal process, students will be challenged not only to be better score readers, but also to aurally put together multiple vocal parts. Choir students will strive to give quality music performances, work together to develop healthy vocal habits for life-long voice use, and work to become mature and responsible leaders within the Sunset community.
