Information
- What kind of information should I be able to
view at K12Planet? Current grades, report
card grades, and daily attendance may be viewed on
K12Planet.
- What schools are participating in K12Planet.com?All middle schools and
high schools except Hillsboro are participating.
- What are some benefits of K12Planet? Families can follow
attendance and grades information. Families and schools
can communicate up-to-date information to support
student learning at any time or location with Internet
access. Families can view information in the teacher gradebook
when it is posted.
Access
- How can I change my password?
- Log on to
K12Planet using your existing user name and
password.
- Click My Settings
in the global navigation bar.
- In the sidebar,
click Change Password.
- Type a new
password in the Password field.
- Confirm the new
password by re-typing it in the Retype Password
field.
- Click Save. A
message will display that your logon information has
been updated.
- Who do I contact if I cannot connect to
K12Planet? Schools provide
support for lost passwords. Families should contact
their Internet provider if they have difficulty
accessing the website.
- What do I do if I forget my password? Families are
asked to enter your e-mail address (see directions)
upon first use. You may then click on the request
password link from the login screen when you forget
your password.
- How do I change my username or password?
- Click My Settings
- To change your
user name, highlight it and then type a new user
name. To highlight, click at the start and drag your
mouse pointer over the text.
- In the Password
field, highlight your old password, and then type a
new password (you must type the correct uppercase or
lowercase letters).
- In the Retype
password field, type your new password again
- Click Save.
- How do I obtain a
username and password for K12Planet? First, download and
sign the acceptable use form for K12Planet. Return the
form to school. The account manager for the school will
provide a username and password for K12Planet.
- How often should I
expect to see changes in the information posted?
Families can expect new information posted by the 15th and the 30th
of each month.
Security
- Who can view information posted on the K12Planet
website? School staff, parents, guardians, and
students are given usernames and passwords. No
unauthorized person can view information on
K12Planet. Access to a student's information is
determined by the parent/caregiver who has custody
of that student or is determined by whether a parent
or other party is granted access by court order.
- Why do I sometimes lose my connection to
K12Planet? K12Planet will timeout after 20 minutes
of inactivity.
- Does K12Planet use data encryption? K12Planet
employs Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption technology, the
industry-standard method of protecting web
communications. The SSL security protocol provides data
encryption, server authentication, message integrity,
and optional client authentication for a TCP/IP
connection.
- Is there a security monitor for K12Planet? Chancery
engineers are on hand to safeguard the integrity of
the K12Planet system around the clock. The engineers
use persistent monitoring software systems to detect
intrusion attempts and network misuse, in real time,
before K12Planet systems are compromised. The
software immediately alerts network managers and
administrators of any suspicious activity, logs the
session, and can automatically terminate the
connection.
- Can any user change data after it has been
posted to the website? Information is updated in the
school's database and then uploaded to the K12Planet
website. The only data that can be directly changed
while using K12Planet is your own user name and
password information.
- Why is it possible for a social security number
to be visible? Tennessee law (49-6-5101 and
49-6-5102) requires the use of the Social Security
number as the unique student identifier. Fields
reported from the state student management system
may include a student number equal to the social
security number. This information is only viewable
by holders of the username and password.
