Using a combination of pull-out services, inclusion
teaching, and consultation with teachers, gifted education consultants strive to
meet the individual needs of Williamson County's intellectually gifted students.
Our consultants are a resource for parents and teachers to provide challenging
curriculum materials and insight about the affective needs of gifted children.
In Tennessee Gifted Education is a special education
service, not a talent program. We meet children’s needs through an
individualized education plan for identified students. Before identification can
take place, students must establish a need for special education. A student must
be performing at such a high level that the general education curriculum is not
appropriate.
Grade level screenings will take place this year in grade
3. Various data will be collected in academic achievement, performance, creative
thinking and cognition. Identification will be multi-faceted.
Individual screenings for other grades will be done for students that
demonstrate an academic need. In summary, we are looking for children that
are disabled by their giftedness.
