Special Education Services

Student Support Services provide for the special education needs of students at Trinity Elementary in the areas of Reading, Language Arts, and Math. Content areas such as Social Studies and Science are covered in the inclusive setting when needed.
Services are provided through the two Learning Labs.  Support services include direct teaching in a small group setting, inclusive shared teaching within the general education classroom, and consultation services.  Assistance is also provided to the classroom teacher in order to make adaptations and modifications to assist in meeting the individual needs of our students.  In the inclusive setting, students benefit from team teaching in the general education classroom as well as modifications and adaptations within the general curriculum. Students receive direct assistance outside their general education classroom when needed. The direct, small-group setting provides students the opportunity to receive instruction on an individualized basis within the general curriculum or through alternative materials.

Our teaching assistants play an essential role in the student support team. They work directly with the students to facilitate learning in small group and inclusion settings. They provide tutorial support by reinforcing skills previously learned and work within the general education classroom to meet the needs of individual students.

Speech & Language Services

Trinity Elementary offers a Speech and Language program to eligible students with communication needs. Services are available in the areas of speech sound production, language, fluency, and voice.  To receive services, the student must meet eligibility standards set forth by the Tennessee State Department of Education and the Individualized Education Team (IEP team) must determine that the communication delay adversely affects educational performance. Services may include direct therapy, inclusion in the student’s classroom, consultation, or collaboration with the other educators. The Speech Language Pathologist works closely with both general and special education staff to ensure that students are provided services that integrate curricular areas with the student’s communication goals and objectives written in the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). Trinity Elementary currently serves children in the elementary classroom.

Therapists provide evaluation and intervention services with a physician's referral.
