The visual arts education program embraces a comprehensive
curriculum based upon four content areas: art appreciation
(aesthetic perception), art history (artists and cultures),
production (creative expression), and criticism (reflection
and assessment). Scope and sequence skills are designed in
accordance with national and state standards for K-5 arts
education.
Thematic units of study encourage creative expression,
promote critical thinking, and develop problem solving
skills than enhance all academic areas. Students are
actively involved in learning and exploring a wide variety
of media, techniques, and processes. While art room
explorations promote a mastery of basic art vocabulary and
concepts, the meaningful learning experiences are also
designed to build an awareness of art in everyday life and
to cultivate a lifelong interest in art. Meaningful art
connections are made with cross-curricular activities.
