Welcome to the Spanish webpage!
Who takes Spanish at Trinity?
All students in grades 3, 4, and 5
When do they have it?
Once a week for 45 minutes
What concepts are taught in Spanish class?
The emphasis of the Spanish
instruction at Trintiy is on practicing basic conversation phrases and
vocabulary related to different topics. The conversation phrases
are those students can use in everyday life, such as how to order in
restaurants. The vocabulary lists include topics such as colors,
numbers, family, body parts, animals, and the house. In
addition, calendar and weather practice is a routine part of class.
How is Spanish taught?
Songs, games, and hands-on materials are used in the teaching process.
Upper grade students write and perform skits as well. While the
chief emphasis at this level is on listening to and speaking Spanish,
all students are given written copies of vocabulary learned. They
are taught letter sounds to help them begin to read in Spanish.
They also do some writing, including translating sentences.
Will Spanish help the
students in other classes?
Yes! In addition to learning another language in Spanish class, students
also learn more about English by discussing the relationship of English
and Spanish words to each other and to Latin. Math concepts are
strengthened through study of the numbers, and geography is taught by
locating Spanish-speaking countries on the map.
Are there any special
events during the year?
Yes! At the end of the year, parents are invited to an
open house in which the students show what
they have learned during the year. This gives the parents an
opportunity to see what a typical class is like. In addition, each class
has a fiesta each year.
