Cafeteria ID Numbers

We have a new computer system that was put into operation in 2004. Each child has an ID number that is used to access an account for (1) Lunch Money only and (2) ala Carte Items only (milk only or ice cream). The account must be prepaid... credits are not allowed. When a child enters his ID number, the cost of the lunch or ala Carte item is deducted from his account. This ID number will stay with the child throughout their enrollment in Williamson County Schools.

Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act

Perhaps the biggest change for our cafeteria this 2005-06 year is the federal Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act. (Click here to learn more.) This means we will be taking a closer look at the nutritional quality of the food and beverages we offer, especially the ala Carte items. We will have more varieties of low-fat milk and offer baked chips instead of regular chips. Many items considered high in fat were removed. The new "Grab 'N Go Lunch" replaces the old sack lunch that was offered. Your child will be able to choose three to five items along with their sandwich. Our goals is to give your children nutritionally balanced choices that will encourage them to have a healthy, balanced diet.

Lunch Money Prices/Procedures

1. Please make your check payable to Walnut Grove Cafeteria.

2. The check can be written for as many days as you wish. You can event send a check for the entire school year. Funds left over at the end of the year will roll over with your child the following year. Your child's ID number will remain his/hers throughout his/her enrollment with Williamson County Schools.

3. Please write one check per student. Please do not write one family check for all your children.

4. Be sure to write you child's name and teacher on the outside envelope and on your check. This ensures the money reaches us and is entered into their account correctly. We save envelopes for record keeping and recommend that you buy blue PTA envelopes. They are available at the school office- $2/pack of 30.

5. Milk is included with the price of lunch. Pay only 60¢ if you intend your child to purchase milk with their lunch box or if you wish for them to have extra milk.

6. You can prepay for all extras and ala Cartes. The money will be put into your child's special account. But please specify on your envelope or all your money will be put into their Lunch Account.

Lunch Charges

Please do not encourage your child to charge their lunch. If for some reason lunch money is forgotten and your child must charge their lunch, we allow them to charge and take home a charge notice that day. A maximum of two charges are allowed according to the Williamson County School Board Policy. If your child needs to charge a third time, we will give them a sandwich and milk until the 2 charges are paid. If there is an emergency, please contact me so that we can provide lunch for your child without embarrassing them.

Food Allergies

Please be aware that we are alerted if your child has food allergies. It is required by the state that we have a doctor's note on file stating that your child has a food allergy. If you are concerned with the ingredients in a food we serve, please do not hesitate to call.
