About Walnut Grove Elementary
The school was established in 1990 for the purpose of preparing our
children to be independent and responsible adults. To fulfill this
mission, our community will aim for the highest standards of
individualized achievement. It was designed to serve students from
kindergarten through fifth grade. Our school's program emphasizes the
acquisition of fundamental skills using an aligned curriculum that
provides a solid foundation for life-long learning. Walnut Grove
currently has 28 classrooms for Kindergarten through fifth grade and
three Special Ed Preschool. We have a fulltime music teacher, one media
specialist, one fulltime and a half physical education teachers, a
school counselor, one art teacher, one part time world language teacher,
one part time gifted ed consultant, and two resource teachers. Walnut
Grove currently has a 27-station Dell computer lab. Each classroom has
three/five networked workstations.

The faculty of Walnut Grove Elementary School made a joint decision to
become a site-based school in the spring of 1997. The Effective Schools
model is for the stakeholders to participate in decision making at the
building level. Each faculty and staff member, as well as parents had
the opportunity to become a member of a correlate team. There are
currently seven correlate teams. The grade level chairperson of each
grade level, a representative from the special education classes and a
representative from the special programs teacher comprise the BLT. This
structure provides the faculty with a communication tool as well as
opportunities for decision making.
Walnut Grove Elementary School is accredited by the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools. It serves about 712 students
in grades Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth. We are very fortunate to be
able to maintain an excellent pupil/teacher ratio.
