Walnut
Grove Elementary is fortunate to have teachers, students,
parents, and district personnel committed to maintaining a
tradition of academic excellence. We are able to accomplish
this goal because we are supported by caring parents,
supportive community members, and a School Board who share
in the value of this important mission.
Teachers,
staff and district personnel constantly review data to
determine strengths and short comings in our learning
profile. Based on the results of this data analysis,
modifications are made to our curriculum and instructional
practices. Two recent examples include being trained to use
practices and procedures advocated by Quantum Learning and
Love and Logic. Information about these programs can be
found by accessing specific websites. The Quantum Learning
Network can be accessed by logging on to
http://www.qln.com/QL-Home.aspx and Love and
Logic can be better understood by referring to
http://www.loveandlogic.com/faq.html#whatis/ Both
professional development opportunities are financially
supported by our district budget.
Becoming
experts in the use of “QL and L&L” will permit our teachers
to design engaging work, cause students to retain
information longer, and use specific strategies to solve
problems and respond successfully to unpredictable
situations. Most important in the 21st century
work place, students will learn to function in an
environment where mutual respect for each other is highly
valued by all stakeholders. Every decision we make is
based on what is best for our students. We know we are here
to help our students meet our high academic expectations
while at the same time preparing them to become happy,
productive members of society.
There are
many ways that you can become part of the Walnut Grove
Elementary tradition. We invite you to participate in the
development of our school improvement plan, participate as a
parent partner to assist struggling readers, or volunteer in
the classroom. Our PTA meets monthly and is always in need
of a helping hand. Parents are welcome to eat lunch with
their child any day.
Throughout
the school year our teachers and PTA work hard to provide a
variety of opportunities for parents to be a part of the
school and share your child's school experiences. Check out
more opportunities in our PTA monthly newsletter, refer to
“Every School Every Day” in the Williamson AM, review our
website frequently, listen for our monthly telephone
messages via Connect-Ed, or refer to Channel 3, and the
district newsletter entitled “In Focus”. Thank you and AIM
