Volunteer
Opportunities & Contacts 2006-07
Our
volunteers are very important to the success of the WMS Band Program. That
help comes in many different ways. Review the list of volunteer
opportunities below to find a way that you can use your time and talents to
help our band program. You can volunteer to be the lead for an opportunity
that does not have a contact person yet or get in touch with the contact to
find out how you can help support our band program at Woodland Middle School.
Fundraising
Committee – (ALL YEAR) – CATHY KARMILLER
This
Committee is in charge of selecting and running all aspects of fundraising
in the band. They will send out flyers, contact fundraising
representative, and turning in all money.
Fundraising
Chair – (ALL YEAR) – MARY BRAUN
This person
will select and organize ALL fundraising activities. The
chairman will also contact all committee members and make sure everything
is being taken care of.
Ravenwood
Band Communications Chair – (ALL YEAR) -
DENNIS JACKSON
This
person will communicate with the RHS Band Booster Club by attending RHS
Booster meetings and events. This person will also be responsible for
keeping the RHS Bulletin board in the WMS bandroom up to date.
Jazz
Camp Committee – (MAY-JUNE)
This
person will be in charge of organizing the camp along with Mr.
McCulley. They will organize all folders and recording for each
student. They will make sure all instructors are paid on time and
have adequate housing if applicable. They will also contact the mall
to schedule our performance time. Meals will need to be organized and
ordered. Jazz Shirts will be designed and ordered.
Concert
Volunteers – (NOV-DEC and APR-MAY)
This
person will organize and publicize concerts, prepare concert programs
and arrange a set-up and tear down crew.
Chili
Cook-off Committee – (NOV-DEC) – CATHY KARMILLER
This
committee will plan the cook-off. They will publicize and find
judges. They will also help in the decorating and set-up of the
cafeteria for the dinner.
Chili
Cook-off Chair – (NOV-DEC) – SUSAN PLANTZ
This
person will organize the Cook-off and contact all volunteers to make sure
all jobs are covered.
Silent
Auction Committee – (SEPT-DEC)
This
committee will acquire and organize all items for the silent auction.
They will also set –up and finalize all purchases made during the
auction. They will publicize this event and make sure it runs
smoothly.
Silent
Auction Chair – (SEPT-DEC)
This
person contacts all volunteers and makes sure the auction runs smoothly.
Bookkeeper
– (ALL YEAR) – DEBRA STARNES
This
is a very busy job. This person will periodically check the money box
in the bandroom for money that has been turned in and contact Mr. McCulley
to see if anything needs to be purchased. This person will stay in
contact with Mrs. Reynolds (School bookkeeper) and make sure all purchase
orders are filled out completely and correctly. This person will
collect all fees and deposit them with Mrs. Reynolds.
Jazz
Trip to Knoxville
Chaperones
These
parents will attend the trip January/February and make sure all runs
smoothly.
Jazz
Trip Chair – (NOV-FEB)
This
person will contact all hotels, restaurants, sporting facilities and other
things associated with the trip and make ALL arrangements. This
person will attend the trip and make all connections run smoothly.
Jazz
Trip Chaperones – (FEB) – CATHY KARMILLER
These
parents will ride with the students to Knoxville and chaperone the entire 3-day
trip.
Concert
Festival Chaperones – (MARCH) – SUSAN
PLANTZ
These
parents will chaperone the trip and ride on the buses with the students to
and from the festival site.
Solo
Festival Organizer – (FEBRUARY)
This
person will meet with Mr. McCulley in January and receive the needed
information to register all students for solo festival.
Mid-State
Organizer – (OCT-NOV) (7th and 8th grade parents
only)
This
person will meet with Mr. McCulley in January and receive the needed
information to register all students for the mid-state audition.
8TH
grade trip coordinator – ( ALL YEAR) - Sandy
Williams
8th
grade trip Chaperones – (MAY) (8th grade parents only) – CATHY KARMILLER
Thomas Tours Liaison (Trip
details)
This
person will be the liaison between Mr. McCulley and Thomas Tours.
Sandy Reynolds has already volunteered for this job.
Music
and Arts Centers Liaison – (ALL YEAR)
This
person will contact the representative, Ken Bodin from Music and Arts Centers when any books, supplies and
repairs need to be ordered.
Band
Banquet Chair – (MARCH-MAY)
This
person will contact the banquet site and make all arrangements for the
banquet. They will contact the caterer and make sure the banquet site
is decorated and ready to go. This person will contact and inform all
volunteers of their duties.
Band
Banquet Committee – (APR-MAY)
This
group of people will assist the banquet chair in any way possible.
Awards
order chair – (MARCH-MAY)
This
person will communicate with Mr. McCulley and contact Prestige Trophies to
order all awards for the banquet
Uniform
Chair – (AUG-OCT)
This
person will insure that all students have the proper uniform ordered at the
beginning of the year. This person will be the liaison between Mr.
McCulley and Visual FX rep Dave Galbraith.
Band
Apparel Chair – (AUG-OCT)
This
person will work with the Uniform Chair and Mr. Galbraith at Visual FX to
order band hoodies, trip shirts and other clothing needed.
Newsletter
Chairman – (ALL YEAR)
This
person will acquire all information from Mr. McCulley for the monthly
newsletter. They will then type and distribute the newsletter to all
WMS students as well as all 5th grade students.
Website
Design – (ALL YEAR)- CATHY FURTICK
This
person will create and maintain the Woodland Band Website.
Honors
Band – (NOVEMBER) (Preferably 8th grade parent)
This
person will arrange the meal for ALL participating band members from ALL Williamson County
high and middle schools and serve them at the honors band event.
E-mail
and Roster Organizer – (AUGUST) – CATHY FURTICK
This person will collect a demographic from each band
student at the beginning of the year and compile a working e-mail list and
roster for each grade.
