WMS Geography Bee

The National Geographic Bee is a nationwide contest for schools in the United States, and is a program of the National Geographic Society.  It is conducted in English and open to students in grades four through eight who are not over the age of 15.  The Bee is designed to encourage the teaching and study of geography.  Questions at all three levels of competition address the subject of geography in its broadest sense.  The format calls for brief answers usually only a word or a phrase.  Questions my require interpretation of maps, graphs, and photographs.  Maps have played a key role in the Bee throughout its 20-year history.  Atlases and maps are essential study tools.  Woodland has been a part of the Bee process since 2000.  Every year we have had our champion advance to the State Level.  Two years in a row our entry came in second in the State.   Sign-ups occur in November through the social studies classes.  If necessary, qualifying tests are given in December and the Geography Bee is held the second or third week in January.  For additional information you may contact Mary Jo Pantall – maryjop1@wcs.edu.
