Birthday Treats and Snack Policy

Food allergies can be life threatening and are a serious concern to all schools.  Winstead has many students with serious fool allergies. We will make every effort to protect food-allergic students, while not taking away from traditional childhood celebrations.

  1. Students in all grades will bring their own daily snack.  This is to ensure that every child has food that is safe for him/her to eat.

  2. For the child's protection, the parents of food-allergic students must bring a supply of snacks for the teacher to distribute during parties. These snacks must be individually labeled with the child's name. Only teachers will be able to distribute party foods to ensure that our food-allergy students are protected and helped to feel they are a significant member of the group.

  3. Your child's teacher will share specific snack procedures for his/her classroom. We will allow birthday celebrations with food to be brought into the school only if prior arrangements have been made with the teacher. Each grade level will decide the time and location of parties. Party arrangements must be made one week in advance to allow teachers to make the most of the instructional time. No surprise parties will be allowed to disrupt the instructional day.

  4. Non-food treats should be limited to one item and may not be balloons. More elaborate parties are appropriate at another setting.

  5. If you want to bring or send your child a birthday balloon, please make arrangements for car pick-up on the day your child receives balloons. Balloons are not allowed on the school bus.
