- Students in high school level math classes (Algebra I or Geometry) will need a TI – 84 graphing calculator.
- If you are considering purchasing your child a Texas Instruments graphing calculator in the near future, please do not purchase a “chargeable” version, unless it is a TI – 84CE. Please purchase the regular TI – 84 Plus that operates on batteries.

Additional School Services
- Gifted Education: Brentwood Middle School offers gifted education services to our intellectually gifted students. This service enables these students to meet their fullest potential. Our gifted consultant works with the general education teachers by helping to create more challenging lessons for the intellectually gifted students in their classes. The gifted consultant also provides other activities for students who are intellectually gifted.
- Speech and Language Therapy: When needed, Brentwood Middle provides speech and language pathologists for students who demonstrate difficulties with speech and language. The range of services varies according to the students' needs.
- Occupational and Physical Therapy: Occupational and physical therapists are also available when needed at Brentwood Middle School. This service aids students who demonstrate difficulties assessing or participating in learning opportunities within the educational environment.
- English as a Second Language: The mission for the English As a Second Language Program at Brentwood Middle is to bridge the educational gap from the student’s first language to English language proficiency. In addition to teaching, we strive to teach our American culture without ignoring or being disrespectful to the student’s own culture.
- Clinic: Brentwood Middle has a clinic that is staffed full time with a nurse. The clinic is available to distribute medicine, attend to medical emergencies, or students' sickness. For more information about the clinic, contact Sandra Duncan.
-
Assessment Descriptions
- Star: This is a universal screen test that is given to students in the areas of math and reading. The purpose of universal screening is to provide a data snapshot of a student’s current performance at three points during the school year and, in some cases, progress throughout the school year, in a variety of academic areas. Parents can request the information from this test as needed. Results are not used for grades.
- Benchmark: These formative assessments are used throughout the year to measure each student’s progress towards mastery of curricular goals. Benchmark data can be used to plan any needed instructional adjustments prior to end-of-year summative assessments. Benchmark results are not typically distributed outside the school due to their formative nature, but parents can request the information from the school as needed. The use of scores for grades is a building-level decision.
- TNReady: TNReady is the state assessment in the areas of English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
-
Brentwood Middle Food Policy
We will honor student birthdays without the focus on food. Teachers should request that only non-food items be permitted to be brought in for any child’s birthday celebration or celebrate in other ways to promote a healthy lifestyle and maximize learning, such as:
- Send in a non-edible treat for everyone in the classroom, such as pencils, bookmarks, etc.
- Donate a book in your child’s name to our school library.
- Donate an educational game or book to your child’s classroom teacher in their honor.
- Have a family member come and read to the class.
All foods brought to school for scheduled school-wide celebrations must be pre-packaged with product ingredients listed. Food made at home may not be distributed during the school day or brought into the classroom.
Parents/guardians will not be allowed to bring outside restaurant food into the school cafeteria. Where space is available, schools may designate an area outside the cafeteria for parents/guardians to bring lunch for their students.
