This club is for groups of friends or solo players to come together and play some tabletop fantasy games. You only need to bring yourself to be a part of the club! We will be meeting on Fridays from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. If we are out of school on a Friday, then it could fall on a Thursday.

The Forensics, Speech and Debate Team is for students who enjoy public speaking, engaging with other students, and sharing their voices and opinions. We will get to connect with new people, hear new ideas, and shift our perspectives as we grow and challenge each other.

Students will pick pieces or topics to work on over the course of the year and will have opportunities to compete at various tournaments. We will also have members from the RHS Speech and Debate Team who will work with us and help us prepare. We will meet every other Wednesday (and as needed) to prepare speeches and cases, enjoy learning and sharing knowledge with each other, and gain confidence in our speaking skills.

The math club meets weekly after school and engages in practice for and participation in various competitions at the local and national level.

These include the Interscholastic Math League, AMC 8, AMC 10, Math Madness, Math Olympiad, Rocket City Math League, Mini Mu, and others.

The math club is open to any 6th through 8th grader interested in honing their skills at creative problem solving and racing against the clock!

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee holds a Model UN Conference for middle school students. The conference offers younger students an introduction to the United Nations General Assembly. While the conference is simplified compared to the larger-scale high school versions, the students benefit from the same valuable educational opportunities when drafting and debating proposals.

WMS is enrolled in the 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee program. The WMS Spelling Bee takes place in January.  The WMS Spelling Bee Champion will have the opportunity to participate in the Tennessee Titans Regional Spelling Bee at Nissan Stadium.

Student Council is an important group of students who meet every other week (on Tuesdays) to organize and carry out projects to help the school and the community during the school year.  

The group is comprised of homeroom representatives and at-large members. The homeroom representatives are elected or selected by the homeroom to represent the homeroom class, so these students report back their homerooms and help lead their homerooms during competitions. The at-large members are full-fledged Student Council members, but they are not required to be spokespeople for their homerooms. The at-large members may come and go, as their after-school schedules allow.

Some of the projects the Student Council has conducted in the past have been the collection of canned food for the needy of Williamson County, collection of funds to aid the victims of disasters,  fund-raising projects to purchase special items for the school, sponsoring dances for 7th and 8th Graders, and organizing “Spirit Week” to foster school spirit for the whole student body.​

Warrior Period is a 30 minute block of time for students scheduled during the school day. This time is dedicated to social-emotional learning and programming, student mental health, physical activity, and student choice. Students select from a wide assortment of offerings. Warrior Period only occurs on school days with a regular schedule.

The Tennessee YMCA Youth in Government is an annual conference designed to offer high school and middle school students a hands-on experience with state government.  Each year, some 1,600 students from across the state converge on the State Capitol, taking the places of our real government officials.  Middle school participants can serve as senators or representatives.

Woodland Middle School Theatre had a triumphant return to the stage with Fall 2022’s “Krazy Kamp,” which was the first stage production to be performed after the Warriors’ nearly three-year hiatus. The cast boasted an impressive amount of talent from our fabulous eighth graders, who performed exceptionally well, despite a handful of them acting for the very first time. The crew was equally talented, providing an awesome display of capability from across all grades. The show ran from October 27 - 29, and made audiences laugh, gasp, and cheer for the 8th grade shenanigans!

Do you like to act, sing, or dance? Then you might be interested in our spring show, the Disney Channel classic, “High School Musical!” Auditions will be held Wednesday and Thursday, January 11 and 12, with callbacks on Friday, January 13. Auditions are a fun time and the material is given ahead of time to give auditionees a chance to prepare. This is a great experience that builds friendships, confidence, and understanding theatre at a higher level.

Students of all grades are invited to be a part of the backstage crew, which is essential to making the show happen as the cast. We are looking for students to help with lights, sound, costumes, makeup, concessions, and more. Students will fill out an application starting January 23 and will be able to communicate which parts of the production they’d be interested in.
