The tradition continues at Scales Elementary where fifth graders participated in the school's annual Winter Olympics on February 16.

Each class represented a different country and researched its history. On the big day, students competed in various activities, including luge, a hula hoop relay, hockey and more.

"We've been doing the Winter Olympics for more than 20 years," said SES fifth-grade teacher Melody Scott. "This is a tradition based not only in academics, with the students researching countries, but they also jump into learning the different games. We compete with good sportsmanship, and we follow that Olympic creed, 'just for the spirit of the games.' We're just cheering on everyone, because, at the end of the day, it's just a lot of fun for everybody."
