Sixth graders at Thompson's Station Middle are using their coding skills and creativity to put on a robot parade.

On Friday, September 15, students in Niki Folven's Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) class hosted a parade for the student body as well as families.

Students were given a fall festival parade theme and were tasked with creating and decorating a trailer to be pulled behind a robot. They also had to code the robots to do a dance before turning around and returning to the starting point.

"They first learned to program the robot virtually," said Folven. "The design challenge was to build the trailer from scratch. I gave them no other guidelines other than it couldn't be larger than 12 inches and that the robot had to be able to pull the trailer. They have gone above and beyond."
