Second graders at Longview Elementary capped off their latest science unit with a beautiful tradition.

On Wednesday, September 20, students in Julia Marshall and Cylina Meredith's classes released their butterflies outside. Prior to the release, the classes had watched their caterpillars grow, form into a chrysalis and undergo metamorphosis.

"The students enjoyed naming their caterpillars and watching the butterflies fly out of the nest," said Marshall. "They were given oranges and were thrilled when a butterfly landed on the orange and began drinking the juice."
