About FMS Athletics
Conferences: FMS is a part of 2 Athletic Conferences. Our main conference is the MTAC conference. This conference includes football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, golf, and volleyball. Our wrestling team competes in a wrestling only conference called the MCAC conference. We also have several sports that are not included in either of these two conferences, but instead complete an individual schedule and even compete at the state level in the TMSAA. These sports include cross country, tennis, and track and field.
TMSAA: FMS is a member of the Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association. The TMSAA will follow these rules and guidelines in every sport.
Sports physicals: Every student athlete must have a sports physical before they can participate in try-outs or participate in any team practices. Please have your physician fill out form linked above for your child to be eligible. Also please try to have your physical scheduled during the summer to prohibit the delays in their ability to participate. Please see below for academic eligibility playing time, and transportation.
Academic Eligibility: The Williamson County Board of Education has set our grading policy of eligibility of student athletes. all student athletes must maintain a 70 or better in all academic classes. Grades will be checked every week for all student athletes. If students fall below 70 or receive an overall grade of incomplete, they will have one week to bring their grades to satisfactory. If they fail to do so, they will be put on probation where they may practice but not dress out and participate in the games. The student becomes eligible again when all grades reach 70. If a student receives below a 70 on their report card for the nine weeks, they are suspended from all athletics (practices and games) until the next report card (9 weeks).
Playing Time: Fairview Middle School does not have a guaranteed playing time policy. It is the decision of each coach who plays and how much. Please do not question a coach about playing time. The Fairview Recreation programs have an equitable playing policy if you are not satisfied with the amount of game time your student athlete is receiving.
Transportation: Transportation is not provided for all sports due to early game times and money constraints. Parents are expected to provide transportation to and from all games when a bus is not provided. Coaches are not allowed to organize carpools for liability reasons. Due to this, parent support is needed to get our athletes to and from athletic contests.
Sports Physical Process
In order to be eligible to tryout and participate in athletic programs or activities, all athletes must have a valid physical on file with the athletic Director and complete all mandatory electronic forms through the Final Forms online program. The Final Forms program can be accessed through the Williamson County Schools FinalForms online dashboard. For parents and students new to Williamson County Schools, access to the FinalForms dashboard can be obtained by contacting the FMS Faculty and Staff athletic director or coaches. You can find their contact information on the Athletics page.
Complete information regarding athletics can be found at the Williamson County Schools district website athletics department.

Williamson County Schools has teamed up with Adidas in their ECOM Partnership Program. The program offers discount codes specific to each school and Adidas donates 10% of the total spent back to the selected school as a fundraiser. Find your school’s discount code and start shopping today!
COVID Information
There are a number of professional medical organizations* that collaborate to develop the Pre-Participation Physical Examination (PPE) Form which is the standard form used by medical providers when conducting a pre-participation physical for TSSAA athletes. Periodically, the form is revised and TSSAA subsequently replaces the form on the TSSAA website with the most current version. Recently, these medical organizations made adjustments to the form to ensure that a previously confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis and vaccination history are included with the student’s health history questions and discussed with the student’s medical provider.
The TSSAA website has been updated to include the revised forms which include the questions about COVID-19. While we encourage everyone to use this form moving forward, students who have already completed their pre participation physicals do not need a new physical on this new form in order to be compliant with TSSAA Bylaws. The use of this form will make it much more likely that the physician has taken into consideration a previous COVID 19 diagnosis when determining whether or not to clear an athlete for full participation in sports.

Baseball
Expectations
It is a requirement that all baseball players recognize themselves as student athletes with the word “student” coming before the word “athlete”. The following is a list of expectations that all baseball players are expected to comply with.
- You shall represent the Fairview Middle School Baseball Program in a positive manner in school and out of school.
- You shall be honest with yourself, parents, coaches, and teachers if mistakes OR bad choices are made-Do Not Lie.
- Players shall NOT conduct themselves in a manner that puts our school or baseball program in a negative light. This includes but is not limited to any negative interactions with teachers, students (whether FMS students or not), teammates, adults within the community, employers, and any alleged criminal activity.
- You shall have the utmost respect for the administration, teachers, substitute teachers, other school employees, and peers.
- You shall strive to obtain the best grades possible. You shall seek out extra help from teachers, if needed, prior to your grades becoming a subject of concern. Baseball will not last forever, education is paramount.
- Students whose grades in any of the four (4) academic subjects (History, Math, Science, English) fall below 70 for the nine-week grading period will be placed on probation. Students on probation may practice, but not play in games. As soon as the grade has improved to an average of 70 or above, the student will be allowed to participate on the team, except that a student shall not play for at least 1 week after being placed on probation. Any student whose grade does not improve to an average of 70 or above in each of the four academic subjects by the mid-term progress report, that student will be suspended from participation until the next nine-week grading period.
- Your behavior shall be a model for other students to follow in the classroom.
- There will be no excuse for negative academic performance within the control of the student athlete or negative behavior within the classroom.
- Student behavior will be monitored throughout the school year. While mistakes are inevitable, athletes will be held accountable for the poor choices they may make inside and outside of school.
Tryouts
Baseball tryouts are held in the fall prior to the start of the spring season. The number/duration of tryout days depend on the amount of students trying out for the sport. Tryouts will be conducted by the Fairview Middle and High School baseball coaching staff. Players will be evaluated on all aspects of the game including performance in the classroom. Being that Baseball players will be held in high regard, the coaching staff may also rely on faculty for insight into whether or not a particular student athlete would serve as a good role model for peers.
Schedule
During the season, baseball players will either participate in practices or games AT LEAST 4 days per week. Practices will always follow the final bell and usually be about 2 hours long. While there is a possibility of transportation being provided to baseball players to games, it is the responsibility of the player/parent(s)/guardian to arrange for transportation to and from practice/games. The regular season schedule will take place from the end of February to early May. Any Postponed/Rescheduled games/practices will be communicated to all parents/players as soon as possible.
