Fifth grade teacher Elizabeth Wallace's class had a sweet time learning about mixtures and solutions.

With the classroom divided into several stations, students created various concoctions named Charmed Hot Cocoa, Pumpkin Delight, Enchanted Ices and Mystical Butterscotch. They discussed the changes that took place as they made the solutions, and the students measured how different variables can affect the results of an experiment.

"The labs we do during this unit are a delight to teach and are so much fun for our students," Wallace said. "When they are given the opportunity to create these mixtures themselves, they learn directly about solutes and solvents. They get to taste their creations, too, which is the delicious part."
