Fifth graders at Grassland Elementary are getting their hands dirty while creating salt dough crafts.

Students in fifth grade teacher Leslie Wheeler's class are using the salt dough to demonstrate how mixtures are made. The dough is made of flour, salt and water kneaded together.

"The students made whatever they wanted to make," said Wheeler. "We are allowing them to dry in the air, but with the rain, we discussed the humidity and the effect it would have on the drying process. On Wednesday, we hope to paint them. They'll take them home as keepsakes."
