Whether it's singing, dancing or backstage preparation, aspiring actors around the district are getting a taste of theater life.

Independence High's Young Actors Yearly (YAY) Camp lets rising kindergarten through eighth grade students experience all aspects of theater. Led by current and former IHS theater students, campers rotate through several stations to learn dance routines, musical numbers and acting tips.

"YAY Camp is awesome," said Pearre Creek Elementary third grader Rachel Branham-Kraft. "I just love singing and dancing, and I want to do this when I get to high school."

The week culminates with a final showcase where students get to perform and show off everything they have learned.
