How do you study something you can't see? Students in Mill Creek Elementary teacher Shantel Watson's class are finding out during their lesson about photosynthesis.

Students submerged leaves in a bowl of water to see oxygen being released in the form of bubbles. Watson says it's an easy way to see a process that is usually invisible to the human eye.

"I like that it's hands-on," said MCES fourth grader Hailey Youngs. "I have trouble focusing on digital assignments, and I think it's more fun when you get to do something with nature."
