Second graders at Longview Elementary School are learning all about the life cycle of butterflies. For the last few weeks, the students have been observing caterpillars as they go through their metamorphosis.

After emerging from their cocoons as butterflies, the insects were brought outside on September 10 where they were released into the wild. For second grader Annabelle Trivette, the event was one of the highlights of her school year so far.

"It was so much fun," said Annabelle. "We were all holding slices so the butterflies would land on them, and then we could see the butterflies up close before they flew away."
