Students at Hillsboro School got a hands-on lesson about history with the help of the Tennessee State Museum.

HEMS fourth-grade teacher Lindsay Hartnett's class had the opportunity to explore a traveling trunk from the museum that contained items that would have been used by a soldier in the Civil War. Uniforms, books and cooking equipment were just a few of the objects that students observed.

"We learned how soldiers carried their belongings and what they carried," said HEMS student Jack Vaughn. "Some of the things I didn't know what they were, and some of it looks a lot different than what we have now. It's really cool to see what it was like back then."
