Orchestra students from Centennial, Independence and Summit high schools had the opportunity to learn from Trans-Siberian Orchestra co-founder Mark Wood and perform on Thursday, November 10.

Wood worked with students through a two-day clinic of performance skills taught to professional entertainers across the nation. The Electrify Your Symphony tour aims to awaken student musicians to their highest potential.

"This program teaches students proprioception, or how parts of the body collaborate to create movement, allowing fine motor skills to connect students to instruments and sound," said IHS orchestra director Melissa Dufrechou. "The final performance demonstrated Mark’s vision for these students as they played, swayed, stomped, jumped, hollered, sang, danced, smiled and even laughed. Students learned how to give themselves permission to enjoy the feel of the music and create independent and cohesive movement, while their instructor and mentor flooded them individually with accolades."

This video from the IHS TV/Film program shows more about what happened the night of the event.
