WCS Substitute of the Month
October 2024
Diana Dizmon: October 2024 Substitute of the Month
How long have you been a substitute?
I have been subbing for WCS for about 5 ½ years.
What is your favorite part of being a substitute?
My favorite part of being a substitute is interacting with the students. I am interested in what they are learning and also in observing the sociology of the high school culture.
What would you say to those on the fence about becoming a substitute teacher?
To those who are thinking about becoming a substitute teacher, I would say that it is a great way to be of service to the teachers and students. Teachers need to take time off for various reasons and they need someone to step into their classrooms and keep their lessons plans on track. Every day is different which makes for an interesting day. I also like the flexibility of being able to work where and when I choose.
Diana, thank you for your dedication and service to Williamson County Schools!

DECEMBER 2022 SUB OF THE MONTH!
Congratulations to Sailaja Nukala! Sailaja has been with Williamson County Schools since 2019. Sailaja is known as "Ms. S" and teachers have said that she is one of the most reliable substitutes. She is a highly flexible Sp Ed substitute and even works on days that she wanted off if a school is in a bind. The kiddos love her and she adapts to any and all situations.

How long have you been a substitute?
I have been subbing for Williamson County Schools since 2007.
What is your favorite part of being a substitute?
My favorite part of subbing is when I feel like I'm making a difference in the kids' lives....making them smile, and when I hear "Hey Mr. H” in the hallways or in the local stores and their parents come to me and thank me....these moments are huge.
What would you say to those who are on the fence about being a substitute (or what would you say to encourage others to sub in WCS)?
I would say to just do it and give it a few tries. You will then begin to feel comfortable and see the results. When you start seeing the kids smile when they see you and when they thank you for being there, you will then begin to feel comfortable and know you are making a difference in someone’s life.

How long have you been a substitute?
I've been a Substitute Teacher for Williamson County since February 21, 2019.
What is your favorite part of being a substitute?
My favorite part of being a substitute is having variety in my work. I have subbed for many levels and subjects beyond what I am certified in. That gives me the opportunity to meet and learn from many other teachers and students.
What would you say to those who are on the fence about being a substitute (or what would you say to encourage others to sub in WCS)?
I would encourage any teachers out there to sub as much as possible because you can learn about many other facets of teaching that you would not learn about otherwise. Subbing helps you to understand other areas besides your own. Williamson County is also a great organization to work for with a wonderful staff of people.
November 2021
How long have you been a substitute?
Three (3) years in Rutherford County and three (3) years in Williamson County.
What is your favorite part of being a substitute?
My favorite part of being a substitute is knowing that I am filling a need by helping teachers who need to take time off and I help the students continue their studies.
What would you say to those who are on the fence about being a substitute (or what would you say to encourage others to sub in WCS)?
I am always encouraging others to sub. I tell them there is a shortage of subs and it would help the schools out...plus you only work when you want. Williamson County has some of the best schools in Tennessee.

How long have you been a substitute?
Close to a year and a half.
What is your favorite part of being a substitute?
My favorite part of being a substitute would be seeing the look on students' faces when they understand and are excited about what they are learning.
What would you say to those who are on the fence about being a substitute (or what would you say to encourage others to sub in WCS)?
I would say to those who are on the fence about being a substitute to just go for it! It can have its tough moments (just like life) but seeing students grow and building relationships with you is rewarding in itself!
September 2021
How long have you been a substitute?
I’ve been a substitute teacher since February of 2021.
What is your favorite part of being a substitute?
My favorite part of substituting is getting to work in any educational setting, including those outside my educational degree.
What would you say to those who are on the fence about being a substitute (or what would you say to encourage others to sub in WCS)?
Substitute teaching allows you to create your own schedule while getting to have the experience of helping children in various educational environments. Everyone in the schools, administrators, and other teachers, are always so helpful, and the kids are very sweet. I have made so many great relationships with teachers I have met and the students I have helped. This job is a very rewarding experience.
