How long have you been a substitute?

I retired as a full-time teacher at Heritage Middle School last May and have been subbing as much as I can this year.

What is your favorite part of being a substitute?

I love working with the students and helping them be successful in the classroom.

What would you say to those on the fence about becoming a substitute teacher?

Just make the leap! You will make a difference!

How long have you been a substitute?

I was previously a 5th grade teacher at Edmondson Elementary School. I taught several years until I had my first child and then took 20 years off until my last child (#7…yes, I have 7 kids) went to kindergarten. I started subbing in December 2021!

What is your favorite part of being a substitute?

So, I’ve been back over 3 years now. I love it!! My youngest attends Clovercroft and I get to take him to school, teach, and bring him home each day. The flexible schedule is wonderful for my big busy family! All the subbing inspired me to re-activate my TN license and I’m now enjoying the long-term subbing jobs as well. My favorite part is definitely the camaraderie with the teachers. I love all the friendships I’ve made and look forward to seeing them all each day.

What would you say to those on the fence about becoming a substitute teacher?

If on the fence, nothing beats the flexible schedule and friendships you’ll make. Whether I’m subbing a classroom teacher or a TA position, it allows me something different each day which I love.

How long have you been a substitute?
I retired in 2014 after teaching physics for ten years at Ravenwood High School. This is my third year substitute teaching at Ravenwood High School and Nolensville High School. Both are great schools!

What is your favorite part of being a substitute?
I really enjoy the interaction with the students. It gives one an opportunity to be a positive influence in their lives. It was something I missed with retirement; although, after 30+ years, a little break was nice!

What would you say to those on the fence about becoming a substitute teacher?
After teaching high school & college for many years, I would say to someone considering becoming a substitute teacher, find the age group with whom you feel the most comfortable and give it a try. You will know in a few weeks if it's for you or not. The rewards can be memorable.

How long have you been a substitute?
I am currently in my 4^th year of subbing for Williamson County.

What is your favorite part of being a substitute?
One of my favorite parts of being a substitute teacher is getting to see the kids grow and gain confidence in both their academics and in themselves. I also really love that I get to work with such wonderful and caring people no matter what grade or subject I help with.

What would you say to those on the fence about becoming a substitute teacher?
I would tell anyone who’s in the fence about substituting that they just need to go once and they will see how amazing it is to watch a kid discover something new and be so proud of themselves when they can show you, they figured it out. Another is that you as a sub aren’t alone there is always amazing staff members ready to help you get everything under control and answer any questions.

How long have you been a substitute?
In 2017, I started as a SpEd Paraprofessional working early childhood at Crockett, Thompson’s Station and Bethesda. Then in 2021, I was looking for more work flexibility and since I still enjoy working with kids, I stayed on with Williamson County substituting.

What is your favorite part of being a substitute?
My favorite part is being able to work in different schools and often see and work with the many kids from my past years. It’s also gratifying to see how much the kids have developed and grown over the years.

What would you say to those on the fence about becoming a substitute teacher?
My overall experience has been great throughout my years at Williamson County Schools. I genuinely enjoy working with the kids and school staff.

How long have you been a substitute?
I have been subbing for WCS for about 5 ½ years.

What is your favorite part of being a substitute?
My favorite part of being a substitute is interacting with the students. I am interested in what they are learning and also
in observing the sociology of the high school culture.

What would you say to those on the fence about becoming a substitute teacher?
To those who are thinking about becoming a substitute teacher, I would say that it is a great way to be of service to the teachers and students. Teachers need to take time off for various reasons and they need someone to step into their classrooms and keep their lessons plans on track. Every day is different which makes for an interesting day. I also like the flexibility of being able to work where and when I choose.
