Planning for the Future

The Centennial counseling center staff look forward to helping every student achieve his or her college and career dreams.  Counselors can help students develop a growth mindset and grit, to give them the determination they need to prepare for testing and college applications, to know their strengths and creative passions, and to encourage students to expand their academic and extracurricular interests to strengthen their college resumes.

Pathways Tennessee

The state of Tennessee recognizes that a graduate has many options for success after leaving high school and that all residents of this state are “prepared for high-quality, in-demand careers” and that they will have the skills and training essential to fill the positions open to them in our ever-changing, technological world.  The Pathways Tennessee program focuses on making students aware of all of their post-secondary options and finding the best fit.

Tennessee HOPE Scholarship

The Tennessee HOPE Scholarship Program provides scholarship and grant assistance to Tennesseans attending eligible Tennessee post-secondary institutions. Interested seniors should review the requirements for the Hope Scholarship and apply online.

Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC)

The Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) administers over 20 different state student financial aid programs, including the HOPE scholarship, Tennessee Promise, Tennessee Reconnect, Tennessee Student Assistance Award, and the Dual Enrollment grant.  They provide a wealth of information about scholarships and financial aid, and students applying for financial aid should pay very close attention to the guidelines and information on this site.

Post Secondary Plans

So, you’ve decided to attend college, and you’ve started preparing for your senior year and the application process, as well .  Fantastic!  But there are still some ominous questions you must answer.  Where will you go?  How do you decide where to apply?  What can you do to make sure you have a stellar application, and when you do receive those congratulatory letters of acceptance, how will you decide where to attend, and how will you pay for it?  The entire application process can certainly hold its share of headache and heartaches, and it definitely exhausts a great deal of time.  We’ve prepared a document containing a wide variety of great general and specific sources to help you work smarter, not harder.  While the list is not exhaustive, it may lead you to other information  and guide your conferences with your counselor.
