Homebound instruction may be necessary for WCS students who are unable to attend school for two consecutive weeks or longer due to medical conditions. There must be thorough medical justification as it is the most restrictive placement, and should only be used for students who are unable to attend school due to medical or emotional needs and treatment.
Homebound Instruction
Homebound instruction is a short-term educational service provided to students who are unable to attend school because of a documented medical condition. Homebound services are intended to help students remain engaged in their education while recovering from a medical condition that prevents school attendance.
Homebound instruction is not intended to:

Serve as an alternative to regular school attendance or homeschooling.

Provide credit recovery or make up for excessive absences.

Be used as a disciplinary placement.
How to Request Homebound Services
Parents or legal guardians must begin the homebound process by completing a Homebound Service Request Form.
Step 1: Complete Required Parent Forms
Parents or legal guardians must:
- Complete the Homebound Service Request Form.
- Complete the Release of Information (ROI) form.
- Submit both forms to Williamson County Schools Student Support Services by email, fax, or mail.
Once Student Support Services receives the completed parent forms and Release of Information, the appropriate medical documentation will be sent directly to the student's treating healthcare provider for completion.
Step 2: Physician Documentation
The treating healthcare provider must complete the required medical documentation verifying:
- The student's medical diagnosis.
- Why the medical condition prevents school attendance.
- The anticipated length of absence.
- Any required treatment plan (when applicable).
A recent clinic note is also required for all applications.
Step 3: Committee Review
After all required documentation has been received, the Williamson County Schools Homebound Services Committee will review the application to determine eligibility.
Homebound services cannot begin until:
- All required documentation has been received.
- The Homebound Services Committee has approved the request.
Parents will receive written notification regarding the committee's decision via email.

Eligibility
Eligibility is determined based on medical documentation from a licensed healthcare provider. In general, the student's medical condition must be expected to prevent school attendance for at least two consecutive weeks.
Submitting a request does not guarantee approval for homebound services.
While Waiting for Approval
Homebound services are not retroactive. While a request is being processed and reviewed, parents should continue communicating with the student's school and obtain assignments directly from classroom teachers and school so the student can remain engaged in learning.
Extensions
If a student requires homebound instruction beyond the approved end date, a new request must be submitted for committee review. Updated documentation is required for all homebound services extending beyond 30 days.
Homebound services conclude at the end of each school year. Students needing services for a new school year must complete a new request.
