Battle of the Books
Sponsors: Kristen Ramirez and Ms. Vance
Meeting Times: To be Announced
Battle of the Books is an extracurricular opportunity for students who enjoy reading and discussing books. Students are given a list of books to read in the fall. A Battle of the Books book club will meet for 8 weeks to discuss the books. Anyone who wishes to be considered for the team needs to take a preliminary test. The students with the ten highest scores and who participated in the book club will be chosen for the team. Following team selection, meetings are held to discuss the books and quiz each other on the content. In late March/early April, each middle school team meets for a quiz bowl contest. Students compete against their peers on content-related questions pertaining to the assigned books.

Student Council
Sponsor(s): Mrs. Nicholls and Ms. Ellison
Student Council is an important group of students who meet to organize and carry out projects to help the school and the community during the school year.
The group is comprised of homeroom representatives and at-large members. The homeroom representatives are selected by the homeroom to represent the homeroom class, so these students report back to their homerooms and help lead their homerooms during competitions. The at-large members are full-fledged Student Council members, but they are not required to be spokespeople for their homerooms. The at-large members may come and go, as their after-school schedules allow.
Some of the projects the Student Council has conducted in the past have been the collection of canned food for the needy of Williamson County, collection of pennies for the Lymphoma Foundation, fund-raising projects to purchase special items for the school, sponsoring dances for 7th and 8th Graders, and organizing “Spirit Week” to foster school spirit for the whole student body.

Students who pass auditions & tests, rotate throughout the school year to produce the daily announcements as a live news show each morning.
Auditions/tests to become a member of The Buzz News Crew take place at the beginning of each school year.

Theater Production
Sponsors: Stephanie Winters
Love to act? This is the place for you! The Spring Play is held every March or April and is the culmination of months of rehearsal. Auditions are usually held in November or December with rehearsals starting in January. It is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. This experience is unlike many community theatres where everyone is cast in the show. We are unable to do that and students should prepare for auditions as much as possible. This is a great experience that builds friendships, confidence, and an understanding of theatre at a higher level.
We also look for a production team and technical crew. There are many different aspects of the theater and we look to encourage students to investigate these various areas.
