Welcome to the Learning Commons
-
We are excited to be a Learning Commons school. Printed books still play a critical role in supporting learners, but digital technologies offer additional pathways to learning and content acquisition. Students and teachers no longer need a library simply for access. Instead, they require a place that encourages participatory learning and allows for co-construction of understanding from a variety of sources.
We have transformed our library space, materials, and activities into our very own Crockett Learning Commons. Kindergarten through 5th graders come once a week for a 45 minute lesson in our Learning Commons. We incorporate Lego Robotics, Google Expeditions VR (virtual reality) headsets, Bee Bots, Pro Bots, and our very own Green Screen Studio where our Crockett News is filmed each day. We also utilize other resources to teach internet safety and typing skills.
Crockett also participates in the Volunteer State Book Award election each spring by reading nominated books. Students in kindergarten - second grade will read books from the VSBA Primary 2023-2024 and third - fifth grade read VSBA Intermediate 2023-2024 books.
