Art (Visual)
Visual Arts Curriculum
The Visual Arts Program at Centennial offers instruction in the areas of drawing, painting and printmaking. Students will also work in various sculpture media. Emphasis will be placed on art appreciation and art history. Students will gain an understanding of the elements and principles of design in planning studio work and be able to use them in creating work as well as in their critical thinking about the art of others. Students are expected to participate in critical discussions about student and professional work.Honor Society
The National Art Honor Society NAHS is designed specifically for high school students in grades 9-12. NAHS aims to inspire and recognize students who have shown an outstanding ability and interest in art. The NAHSstrives to aid members in attaining the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community.Art Shows
Each spring, the combined arts programs at CHS sponsor the Centennial Art Show, a juried exhibition of our best art work. Artifacts remain on exhibit in the library and hallways throughout the week of the show. -
Theater
Theater Curriculum
All students may select theater courses on their schedules.Center Stage Productions (Plays)
Center Stage Productions operates under the direction of Mr. Brandon Hamilton. In general, the organization mounts two productions open to all students grades 9-12 per year: a play in the fall and a musical in the spring. Anyone wishing to audition should check for dates and times in the Daily Announcements.International Thespian Society
Centennial High School International Thespian Society Troup #6061 International Thespian Society is an honor society for Theatre Students. Its mission is to honor student excellence in the theater arts; its motto is, “Act well thy part; there all the honor lies.” It is a division of the Educational Theatre Association. It inducts high school students active in theater each fall or spring, with members earning points towards a higher status. -
Marching Band, Jazz Band, Winter Guard, Winter Percussion
When Mr. Miller, our band director, came to Centennial, he set two “Goals of Epic Proportions” and set a five-year completion deadline. As of spring 2017, the band was accepted to compete in the Bands of America’s Grand National Marching Championships. Second, as of September 2017, the Wind Ensemble was accepted (through blind audition) to perform at the Tennessee Music Education Association’s All-State Conference. Congratulations to the band for achieving their goals ahead of schedule!

Choral Music
Curriculum
“Centennial Choirs” provides opportunities for students to perform with stylistic accuracy literature from a variety of genres, eras, and vocal styles. Students are challenged not only to be better score readers but also to put together aurally multiple vocal parts. These are the tasks of a professional vocalist.Centennial Choirs meet under the direction of Dr. Johnathan Vest, Director of Choral Activities. Before coming to Centennial, Dr. Vest was the Coordinator of Music Education at the University of Tennessee at Martin. He previously taught music in Williamson County and Metro Nashville Public Schools. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Harding University, a Master of Arts in Piano Performance from Middle Tennessee State University, and a Doctor of Education from The University of Alabama. His wife, Elizabeth, is a principal in the district. He enjoys spending time with her and their two children, and their chocolate lab, Stanley.
Performances
Performances are open to all of the Centennial community, and most are free or charge. Information about these events will appear in the Daily Announcements.
