Greetings from the BHS Library! In our library, we proudly serve all members of our school community. We celebrate and support learning by offering a wide variety of resources including books, technology and databases. The library hours are from 7:10 AM – 3:00 PM.Our librarians thrive on collaborating with BHS teachers and students to prepare graduates for college and beyond and eagerly look forward to working with you!

Policies, Procedures, and Resources

Mission
It is the mission of the Brentwood High School Library program is to ensure that all members of the school community have equal access to print and non-print materials, develop a lifelong love of reading, and become effective users of information and technology. To fulfill this mission, the Brentwood High Library Media staff strives to:
- Guide students and staff to become effective users of information and support technology in the classroom.
- Maintain a collection that supports the curriculum and provides a variety of books and resources to meet the needs and interests of its patrons.
- Provide access to information and resources through flexible library hours and online databases.
- Collaborate with teachers to support curriculum.
- Promote the legal and ethical use of copyrighted material and provide students and staff with information on copyright law and fair use guidelines for education.
- Participate in professional growth opportunities for library media and technology applications.
- Create a positive environment where all patrons feel welcome.

Library Procedures
In order to provide an environment that is conducive to learning, teachers and students should follow these procedures:
- Students must obtain permission from their classroom teacher before visiting the library.
- Each study hall teacher can send up to three students at a time to visit the library.
- Students should visit the library with an educational purpose such as studying, doing homework, or reading. Sleeping or meeting up with friends to talk is not permitted.
- Students should keep noise and conversation to a minimum. Be courteous of others.
- Students should visit their locker and restroom before entering the library.
- Students must follow the sign-in and out procedures posted.
- If the student is not following library rules, the student will be asked to sign out and return to the classroom.
- No food or drink (except water bottles) allowed in the library.
- Students must have a WCS Internet Acceptable Use Policy signed by student and parent on file before using technology.

Circulation Policy
Loan Periods and Late Fines
- Book – Regular Collection, 10 Day Loan Period
- After 10 days: $0.10 per day
Max Fine Amount: $5.00
- After 10 days: $0.10 per day
- Book – Reference, 5 Day Loan Period
- After 5 days: $0.10
Max Fine Amount: $5.00
- After 5 days: $0.10
- Equipment, 5 Day Loan Period
- After 5 days: $0.50
Max Fine Amount: $10.00
- After 5 days: $0.50
Items that are lost or not returned will be subject to the replacement cost of the item. Note the following stipulations:
If an Item is paid for but found and returned with the school year, the replacement cost will be refunded.
No applied late fines will be refunded.
Once the school year has ended, no refunds will be issued for items checked out prior to the last day of the school year.
Items can be replaced for an exact new copy (i.e. same make, model or title, author). No used items will be accepted for replacement. - Book – Regular Collection, 10 Day Loan Period

Library Book Holds
You may place a hold on a library book for checkout. Please see the How to Place a Hold for instructions. You must be logged-in to your WCS Gmail account in order to access these instructions. Once your hold is ready, a librarian will email you directions for pickup.

Requests
Are we missing a book in the library that you would like to have evaluated for possible purchase? If so, please fill out the Request a Library Book form. (You must use your WCS Gmail account to access the form.) You may request books at any time during the year.

Reservations
Teachers: To sign-up to use the library, library lab, or COWs, first view the Library Reservation Calendar for available dates. Then send a librarian an email with your preferred dates, location (COW #), and periods. Note: You must sign in with your myplace.wcs.edu email account to view the calendar.
