Page Middle Exploratory Classes
Page Middle provides each student with the opportunity to fully immerse themselves into the arts. And along the way, passion and talents are unveiled as students are free to express themselves as individuals.

TV/Film Production
TV/Film Production is a 9-week course for students in grades 6, 7 and 8. In this course, students will learn the basics of camera operations, tripod functions, and telling a story using their creativity. The kids will have the entire Adobe suite available to them on Mac computers. This course will prepare the students, so they will be able to succeed, for TV/Film production at the high school level. the class will teach the following:
Safety in the classroom as well as in the field
How to use an SD card, Hard drives, Mac Computers, T6I Canon Cameras, and Tripods
Adobe Suite Premiere pro, After Effects, Audition and Photoshop
Learn how to shot sequence, Storyboard, 3-pt lightning, B-roll, Voice overs, Text and Graphics. as well as other parts that are ever so changing in this industry

Physical Education
Physical Education is an important part of the total educational program. Students participate in physical activities that allow them to develop an understanding of the physical abilities of themselves and others. This course provides students with the opportunity to learn a variety of sports and sport related movements as well fitness concepts. Students become aware of the social benefits of physical activity through participation. The mental and emotional benefits of physical activity become evident when an active role in physical activity is encouraged. With a strong emphasis placed on active participation and positive social interaction during fitness and sport activities.
The total development of students is the goal of the educational system. Physical Education is a vital part in reaching this goal. A variety of activities are incorporated into the physical education program. Activities vary from creative movement to lifetime sports. The age level of the individuals is a factor determining what activity is to be provided, but the outcome at any level should be the same.
All students have the need and right to enjoy the benefits of physical activity. Through a creative and well-rounded physical education program, students will benefit. -
STEM
STEM is a 9-week course for students in 6th , 7th, and 8th grades. In this course, students will explore different concepts of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The class will reinforce grade-level math and science concepts while introducing newer concepts such as computer coding and technical sketching. Students will use the Engineering Design Process and solve a variety of challenges and problems.
This class is designed to strengthen the 21st century skills:
- critical thinking
- communication
- collaboration
- creativity.

Drama
Grade 6: Introduction to Theatre is designed to familiarize students with acting and speaking skills. Students will learn and be able to exhibit good Audience etiquette. Students will participate in various activities that may include puppetry, plays, pantomime, storytelling through these activities, they will learn physical and vocal presentation skills and develop basic knowledge of theatre arts. All students participate in performances.
Grade 7: Students develop acting skills and speaking skills. Acting activities focus on developing character, vocal expression, stage movement, memorization skills, and script writing. Students use costumes, props, and scenery to add to their performances. Students will learn and will be able to exhibit good Audience etiquette. Students will build self-confidence in performing in front of their peers. Activities will include individual and group performances, group Theatre games, and script writing. All students participate in performances.
Grade 8: Students explore aspects of theater including acting, Theater history, and successful monologue, and character creation work. Students will learn and will be able to exhibit good Audience etiquette. Students learn basic acting skills through activities such as improvisation, Theater games, monologues, and scene work. All students participate in performances.

Chorus
Choir classes are offered for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at Page Middle School.
6th Grade Choir Class
Students will practice healthy vocal production techniques and learn basic sight-reading skills. While students are developing their own voices and musicianship, they will also be learning about blend and listening within an ensemble. The 6th Grade Choir participates in MTVA-hosted events such as Mass Choir and performs in Fall and Holiday concerts. They may take this class for one semester and still participate in two other assigned 9-week exploratory classes, including Drama, Multi-Media, P.E., etc. as well as all extra-curricular sports and activities. Membership is open to any interested 6th grade students, with no experience required. (One semester)
7th Grade Choir Class
Students will practice healthy vocal production techniques and learn sight-reading skills at an intermediate level. While students are developing their own voices and musicianship, they will also be learning about blend and listening within an ensemble. In 7th grade, we begin to sing in 3-part harmony. Students in this ensemble participate in MTVA Mass Choir and perform in Fall and Holiday concerts. They may take this class for one semester and still participate in two other assigned 9-week exploratory classes, including Drama, Multi-Media, P.E., etc. as well as all extra-curricular sports and activities. Membership is open to any interested 7th grade student, with no experience required. (One semester)
8th Grade Choir Class
Students will practice healthy vocal production techniques and learn sight-reading skills at an advanced level. While students are developing their own voices and musicianship, they will also be learning about blend and listening within an ensemble. In 8th grade, we sing in three and sometimes four-part harmony. The 8th Grade Choir perform three concerts per year (fall, holiday, and spring) and participates in MTVA-hosted events such as Solo & Ensemble, Choir Festival, and Mass Choir. This group will also have the opportunity to audition for Williamson County Honor Choir and MTVA Honor Choir. Students in this class must have previous choral experience or must audition for the class. (Year-Round)
Extracurricular Opportunity:
Page Middle Choir is an auditioned after-school ensemble that meets twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3-4pm. Members of this ensemble perform three concerts per year (fall, holiday, and spring) and participate in MTVA-hosted events such as Solo & Ensemble and Choir Festival. This group will also have the opportunity to audition for Williamson County Honor Choir and MTVA Honor Choir. This is a year-long commitment. Auditions for this ensemble will be August 19th and 20th.

Band

The Page Middle School Band is made up of about 300 students who enjoy making music. The Page Band performs several concerts each year, as well as playing at Pep Rallies, school events, and one football game. The Page Band has several students each year that qualify for All Mid-State Band and the Williamson County Honor Band, and the Page Band consistently receives Superior ratings at the MTSBOA Concert Performance Assessment. Membership is open to any interested 6th grade students, with no experience required. 7th and 8th grade band is open to any student who has been in the band before.
Beginning Band (6th grade)
Membership is open to any 6th grade student who wishes to learn the fundamentals of playing a typical school band instrument. These instruments include flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, tuba, baritone, French horn, and percussion. Students will learn the foundations that will ensure their success as future band members, such as learning to read music, producing a good tone, assimilating music history and theory, and playing and performing individually and as a group. The Beginning Band traditionally performs two concerts. Students who are achieving at a high level are also encouraged to participate in a Solo and Ensemble Festival. Students are expected to practice individually in preparation for class and to attend all performances.
Concert Band (7th grade)
Membership is open to 7th grade students who have at least one year experience playing their instrument. The course is a continuation of the technical training started in the 6th grade. Students will expand their playing ability, improve their range, tone, and technique, enhance their ensemble skills, continue to assimilate music history and theory, and perform individually and as a group. Students will perform in the Winter and Spring Concerts and for pep rallies. Students achieving at a high level will be encouraged to audition for the MTSBOA Mid-state Bands and also Solo and Ensemble Festival. Students are expected to practice individually in preparation for class and to attend all performances.
Symphonic Band (8th grade)
Membership is open to 8th grade students who have at least two years of experience on their instrument. Students will continue to expand their playing ability, improve their range, tone and technique, refine their ensemble skills, apply music history and theory skills, and perform individually and as a group. Students will perform in the Winter and Spring Concerts, school assemblies for special occasions, and pep rallies. Students achieving at a high level will be encouraged to audition for the MTSBOA Clinic Bands and also Solo and Ensemble Festival. Students will attend the Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association Concert Performance Assessment in the spring. This band also performs for various school and community functions. Students are expected to practice individually in preparation for class and to attend all performances.
Jazz Band (7th and 8th grade)
Jazz Band is an after-school ensemble which studies Swing, Latin, Be-Bop, Bossa, and Rock styles of music in a true Jazz instrument setting. This group is selected by audition and is open to 7th and 8th grade students that are enrolled in the Band Class during Exploratory.

Art
Middle grade art classes are intended to expand on the understanding and skill sets originally developed in elementary classes, as well as prepare students for creative thinking in future artistic and academic studies. Students will be exposed to a variety of learning experiences within and outside of the art room. Students learn about, discuss, and critique artwork created by different peoples and cultures from around the world. Through these studies, students explore and deepen their understanding a variety of art media, techniques, and processes.
