Art
The art room has been transforming over the past three years to allow artists to have more choice. Each grade level has different techniques, standards, and essential questions presented and discussed before artists are presented with an art problem. We do look at present and past artists for inspiration. The idea is that students select their own subject matter and make a personal connection to the piece of art they want to create.
- Kindergarten artists are exploring different materials and creating more non-objective works of art. We talk about how each of us can take care of supplies and how we can be safe in the art room.
- First graders are given two centers to select materials that work best for their artwork that they are trying to create. We are also learning how to put back materials and how to clean up properly.
- Artists in 2nd-5th graders are learning about the eight Studio Habits of Mind and how artists explore and experiment with different materials. We focus on what artists are expected to do in the art room and how each of us has a responsibility. All artists have multiple options of materials in the drawing, collage, and painting centers they can use to solve their art problem. Focus lessons will be presented at each studio center and artists can select materials from other centers to add to their project. Our centers include: drawing, collage, painting, printmaking, fiber, and sculpture. Artists in grades 3rd-5th will also have an opportunity to work on the pottery wheel this year.
Artsonia is an online digital portfolio of students’ work. Parents do have to give permission and also keep the gallery private. See over 50,000 artworks made at Crockett!
Artwork will be returned in December and May. Art supply donations are always welcome:
- Black Sharpies
- Markers
- Fabric
- Cardboard 12×12 or smaller
- Scrape Wood 6×6
- Beads
- Pipe Cleaners
- Any craft items…etc.
Thank you so much for supporting the arts!

Library
Our library staff has one mission: to spark a love of literature that will last a lifetime. It is our goal that the students of Crockett will gain a love of quality literature.
Kindergarten through fifth grader come once a week for a 45 minute library class. Every library lesson incorporates technology. We cover how to use a library and access internet resources.
Once the foundation for a successful year is in place, we begin exploring various authors and celebrating the Volunteer State Book Awards by reading nominated books. Our votes help choose the best books in the state of Tennessee.
Please contact me if you have any questions.

Music
Crockett Elementary students enjoy a 45 minute weekly music lesson. Through singing, playing instruments, movement, and games, they will experience the joy of music. New opportunities, challenges and skills are introduced at different grade levels as students mature and develop readiness. Recorder is a part of the fourth and fifth grade curriculum. My goal is to instill a life-long love and appreciation for music.
