Safety Concern at Dismissal
Car riders are only allowed to be picked up at the FRONT of the school in the designated car rider line. Recently, there have been parents/guardians parking in the lot next to the gym and waiting for students to exit the back doors. This is not allowed and is a major safety concern!
The entrance/exit lane near the gym, closest to the sidewalk, is designated only for WCS Handicap Buses from 2:15-3:15 PM each day. Handicap parking spaces in this area are clearly marked and are designated ONLY for vehicles with disability parking plates and placards.
The ONLY students who are allowed to be dismissed from the gym area doors are:
- Students who (each day) need special transportation or require handicap-accessible vehicles for transportation.
- Students who have parental permission to walk to SHS or neighborhoods north of campus (Students walking to Wade's Grove, Chapman's Crossing, Spring Hill Place, etc. should exit through the front car rider entrance.)
- Student athletes who are participating in a current sport and have an AWAY game/match to attend (Parents of these student athletes have been given specific instructions on where to park so as not to interfere with the dismissal of students in need of assistance from adults.)
This area will be strictly monitored by SSMS staff and our Student Resource Officer to ensure the safety of the few students dismissed from this area.
We ask that adults driving in this area remain cautious and alert at all times, watching for the students who have permission to be picked up in this area.

WCS Early Childhood Peer Program
The Williamson County Schools (WCS) Early Childhood (EC) Peer Program integrates students with disabilities by typically developing peer models. This program focuses on the pre-academic, motor (gross and fine), language, social, and adaptive skills within the context of a preschool curriculum. It also teaches foundational skills for all children through the use of play, movement, music, and other developmentally appropriate activities.
WCS is now accepting applications for peer models in the Early Childhood Programs for the 2022 – 2023 school year. As some of our peers return each year, there are limited openings in some classrooms. To apply, or learn more, please visit this website.

Student Handbook Revision
Please note the following reminders regarding expectations and student responsibilities noted in the student handbook. The underlined text contains expectations that have been updated or revised since August of 2021.
Dress Code: (The following is only an excerpt from the handbook and addresses the most common dress code violations noted from the 1st semester.)
-
Tops of shoulders must have a minimum of a 1-inch strap unless otherwise covered by an opaque (non-see-through) top garment.
-
Skin and undergarments must be covered with opaque (non-see-through) clothing from the underarm to mid-thigh. (This includes holes/rips in pants or shorts.)
-
Leggings and other compression-style garments may be worn so long as an opaque top garment fully covers the private body parts.
-
Head coverings may not be worn in buildings without the permission of building administration.
-
Students who do not adhere to the dress code will call home for a change of clothing. If parents/guardians cannot be contacted for a change of clothing, a student will be given the choice to wear appropriate clothing provided by the school or remain separated from their peers for the remainder of the school day.
Outside Food Policy:
-
Students/Parents/Guardians are not allowed to bring restaurant food or drink products into the school cafeteria.
-
Food or drink items (other than water) purchased outside of the school cafeteria may only be consumed in the cafeteria during the students' designated breakfast or lunch time or with permission from staff during a designated snack time in the classroom.

Academic Intervention Detention (AID)
Academic Intervention Detention (A.I.D.):
It is the expectation of SSMS that all students diligently complete all academic assignments. If a teacher assigns the work, then the student should complete the work. To this end, SSMS has designed an Academic Intervention Detention (A.I.D.) in order to support students in completing all assignments. Students can be assigned to A.I.D. for either of the following two reasons:
1. The student is missing multiple (2 or more) assignments.
2. The student is failing a class due to a missing assignment.
Students will receive an A.I.D. form from their teacher assigning them to the intervention time. Parents will be contacted by the teacher to confirm the scheduled date of the detention. Things to remember about A.I.D:
1. Parents will be contacted to confirm the date A.I.D. should be served.
2. A.I.D. is from 2:45-3:45 on Thursday afternoons in the library.
3. After a student attends A.I.D., the work is expected to be turned in by Friday morning (the next day).
4. Students must be picked up at 3:45 by a parent or guardian.
After School Detention
After school detentions may be assigned as a disciplinary action and will take place on Thursday afternoons from 2:45 PM- 3:45 PM. If a student is assigned an after-school detention, parents/guardians are responsible for picking students up at 3:45 and will always be contacted with advanced notice by an administrator.
