Media Center
The Heritage Elementary library offers fiction and nonfiction books, audio books, professional books, journals and reference materials for our students and staff. We provide resources and recreational reading materials that enable our students to become both information literate and lifelong readers. Educational technology and professional materials are also available for faculty and staff. The Library Media Center operates on a flexible schedule and is open to students throughout the day.

Damaged Books
Please return damaged books to the library for repair. Accidents can and do happen. Pets chew book, younger siblings redesign them, snack boxes leak, etc. Books damaged beyond repair must be replaced. A damage bill with replacement costs will be sent home. Should a page accidentally rip, please return to the library and we will repair the page with a special tape.

Checkout Information
The library is open for student checkout Monday through Friday from 8:15 AM until 3:15 PM.
Each class has a scheduled time each week to return books and select new ones. Individual students may come during open checkout time each day with teacher permission. Grades 3, 4, and 5 may schedule flexible time slots for classroom research assignments depending upon skills being taught.
Students in grades K-1 may check out one book for one week. Students in grades 2-5 may check out two books (one fiction, one non-fiction) for one week. Students have daily access to the library and may come each day for a new book with teacher permission. Books may be renewed for two additional times, and then must be returned for others to enjoy.

Philosophy
The Heritage Library provides materials and resources to support the curriculum and encourage the love of reading. Our goal is that students will become independent library users, users of information, and life long learners with a love of reading. Resources are in the form of print, non-print and electronic materials.
