Early Learning Programs

Williamson County Schools offers a variety of preschool experiences for our youngest learners. We exist to provide all students with a quality education that supports their intellectual, physical, emotional, and social development.

Early Childhood Special Education

In keeping with the mandate from the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Williamson County Schools (WCS) Special Education aims to provide the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) for all students. A continuum of services is available for each student based on the Individual Education Plan (IEP) team decision on the placement of those services. The focus is on giving each student the help he or she needs to learn. 

  • Ages 3 – 5
  • Placement made by IEP team based on student need 
  • Continuum of Services, including Walk-In therapy for Speech/Language/OT; Community-Based Services; EC Classroom Services 
  • Walk-In and Community Based Services scheduled by provider based on IEP service times 
  • Early Childhood Classroom meets Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
  • Students will attend one of the two sessions per day
    • AM: 8:50-11:50 
    • PM: 12:50-3:50 
  • Follows WCS calendar 
  • Extended School Services for students who qualify 
  • Follows TN State Early Learning Standards (TN-ELDS) 
  • Uses Connect 4 Learning Curriculum

Early Childhood Peer Program

The Williamson County Schools (WCS) Early Childhood (EC) Peer Program integrates students with disabilities with typically developing peer models. This program focuses on the pre-academic, motor (gross and fine), language, social, and adaptive skills within the context of a preschool curriculum. It also teaches foundational skills for all children through the use of play, movement, music, and other developmentally appropriate activities. 

  • Ages 3 – 5 
  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
  • Students will attend one of the two sessions per day
    • AM: 8:50-11:50 
    • PM: 12:50-3:50 
  • Application Process
    • Application Process is for students who do not have a current special education eligibility or IEP. Students receiving services through the TEIS Extended Option do have a current eligibility for special education services and are not eligible for enrollment through the Peer Application Process. Families should contact their TEIS service coordinator or call 615-472-4130 to discuss the early childhood classroom as a possible special education service through an IEP.

Voluntary Pre-K Program

The WCS Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten Program (VPK) is a TN state funded general education program providing high-quality educational experiences to enhance school readiness and success in the school environment. Success is achieved through purposeful play, movement, music, and developmentally appropriate instructional activities. This program focuses on pre-academic, motor skills (gross and fine), language development, and social skills within the context of a preschool curriculum.

  • Age 4 on or before August 15
  • Monday - Friday
  • Program Hours are 8:50 a.m. - 2:40 p.m. each day
  • Application Process
  • Placement is based on TN State Department of Education eligibility guidelines
  • Income Eligible families receive priority placement
  • Follows WCS calendar
  • Follows TN State Early Learning Standards (TN-ELDS)
  • Uses Connect 4 Learning Curriculum
