Battle of the Books- Fairview Middle School has a Battle of the Books team composed of five to seven students from the three grades. The team members read all ten of the novels on the list, and meet once a month. If more than seven want to be on the team, a qualifying test will be given to determine who will be on the team. Usually in May the competition is held at a high school during which the middle school teams compete to see who has the highest number of questions about these books answered correctly.

Beta Club is offered to “honor students” who wish to serve their community in a variety of ways. It is a nonprofit organization whose members volunteer for school, community, and often, world causes. Students must be invited to join this organization. In order to qualify for Beta Club, students must have earned straight A’s in all classes for the first two quarters of the school year and also receive positive character evaluations by teachers. New members are initiated the second semester of each school year based on these qualifications.

Open Music Studio meets every Monday afternoon after school until 4:00 PM. All FMS students are welcome to come learn, practice, create, write, collaborate, and perform with other students in the music room! You can explore guitar, keyboard, hand drums, or any other instrument you care to bring. It’s a great time to learn how to play a new instrument, sing, or listen to what others are working on, even if you’ve never been in chorus or band! Miss Houck and other students can teach you how to play that song you love on the radio, help finish that song you’ve been crafting, or be an encouraging audience for your performance! Come as often as you’d like!
Concert Choir is open to all 7th and 8th Grade students. Concert Choir members will meet as a class for the entire school year. Miss Houck requests a $20 chorus fee to cover the cost of music and classroom supplies. We will perform at the annual NatureFest event in Bowie Nature Park, the FMS Holiday Bazaar, the Fairview Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, FMS/FHS Holiday Chorus Concert, and Spring Arts Night. This year we will also participate in the Middle Tennessee Vocal Association Choral Festival. Additional community performances may be scheduled upon director’s discretion. All students who have an interest in music and singing are encouraged to join!
Chamber Singers is a select ensemble that sings challenging vocal repertoire and demonstrates excellence in choral singing practices. Chamber Singers auditions will be held in early December and selected members will begin rehearsals in January. We rehearse every Thursday after school until 4:00 PM in the music room. Chamber Singers will compete as a separate ensemble at the MTVA Choral Festival this spring. All Chamber Singers will be fitted for and assigned black dresses and/or tuxedos for performances. Chamber Singers does not require any extra fees beyond the cost of the dry-cleaning uniforms at the end of the year.

The goal of this writing club is to provide writers with a safe place to write and share your stories with peers. Art is designed to be appreciated and shared. This is an opportunity for you to do just that along with harnessing, improving, and encouraging your abilities.
Through the course of the year, writers will have the opportunity to:
- complete “quick writes” to practice and sharpen their skills;
- receive writing prompts to work on during club meetings and on their own time; share what they have been independently working on if they choose;
- take part in a progressive story in which all writers will take turns contributing to one story;
- and collaborate with a creative writing club from another Williamson County School.
This is just a sample of the activities we will engage in during our meetings. This is your club, driven by your interests. I am there to encourage, guide, and advise.
The Creative Writing Club will meet every Monday after school until 3:45pm. If you are interested in joining the club or learning more about it, feel free to stop by and visit the next meeting or see Mr. Grimenstein.

The Fairview Middle School Players are proud to present beautiful and thought provoking performances that dramatically impact the lives of the students involved and the audiences that are privileged to experience them. Over the years the students have brought dramatic content to life in these critically acclaimed productions:
- Thronton Wilder’s Our Town
- You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown
- A Christmas Carol
- Seussical Jr.
- And Then They Came For Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank
- Disney’s The Lion King Jr.
Auditions for performances and number of productions will vary. Students should listen for specific announcements regarding auditions throughout the school year. Productions are a huge commitment and may last for a total rehearsal and performance time of up to 2 months. Students who play other sports or participate in other activities during that time will NOT be considered for roles. Audition requirements are as follows:
- A sixty second monologue that shows the range of the performers acting ability.
- A verse and chorus of a song that shows the vocal range of the performer. (Musicals only)
- After the general audition the performer may be required to attend a “Call Back”. (An additional audition to read scenes from the play with other actors and actresses)
