You can get involved in Visual Art by taking classes! You can take art all four years if you’re interested! If you have experience making art and are up for a challenge, you can apply to skip Visual Art I and go directly into Visual Art II . See Ms. Baltimore or Mrs. Lane for more info on what kind of drawings we would need to see.
Classes offered include Visual Art I , II , III -Honors, and AP Studio. While not an art-making class, AP Art History is also offered and can earn you your Fine Art credit towards graduation requirements. See Mrs. Lane for more information on Art History.
We have an active chapter of National Art Honor Society which meets 1-2 times per month to work on projects that support and promote the Visual Arts at Independence and in the community. Please e-mail Ms. Baltimore or Mrs. Lane for more information on NAHS .
The Independence Vocal Program has an array of opportunities for students to be involved. School day ensembles include the Women’s Chorus, Men’s Chorus, Concert Choir and Chamber Chorus. These ensembles represent the experiences of the students, from beginner to advanced. Choral students have a number of extracurricular opportunities – some of which include: auditioning for Mid-State (a regional choral festival), All-State, participating in fundraisers, Regional and State Choral Festivals, as well as solo and ensemble festival.
Declaration Singers is the after school Glee/Pop a cappella ensemble that meets every Wednesday from 3:00 until 4:30. Rehearsals are typically held in the IPAC .
The Independence Orchestra was founded in 2016. It includes violin, viola, cello, bass. Students learn a variety of styles of music, from modern compositions to movie music to Mozart! Students perform several times each year at Independence, as well as the Williamson County Fine Arts Festival, the WCS Spring String Fling, and an annual competition trip is developing as well! Students in the Independence Orchestra have the opportunity to audition for WCS Honor Orchestra and Tennessee’s Mid-State Orchestra, and several of our students have been accepted into these high-level performing ensembles.
Placement is by audition.
Beginners are welcome with the director’s permission. Speak with Ms. Dufrechou prior to registering for the class.
