December 15, 2011

Happy Holidays from IN FOCUS!  Winter break is almost here.  First semester exams began today and the semester will officially end Tuesday, December 20.  Students and teachers will enjoy two full weeks of vacation before classes resume Thursday, January 5.

In the meantime, we have plenty to tell you about in this issue of IN FOCUS.  First up, we'll show you how a newly formed STUDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL is helping district leaders make important decisions regarding education.  Then, it's off to Brentwood where students at Woodland Middle School entertained friends and family with their second annual MADRIGAL DINNER.  Last but not least, we'll take you to Middle College High School where the students spent weeks studying Spanish customs for the school's first CULTURE FAIR.

Some of the other stories you'll find in this issue of IN FOCUS include the latest edition of COUNSELOR CONNECTS.  This week's feature includes important information about obtaining student aid for college and calculating semester grades.  We'll also tell you how students at one elementary school are learning all about the JOY OF GIVING this holiday season.  And Williamson County is known for being home to talented musicians, so it's no surprise that dozens of WCS students were recently named to the MID-STATE BAND and MID-STATE CHORUS.  We'll tell you who they are.

Also in this issue, Centennial High School wins a prestigious ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD, students in Brentwood High's MEDIA PROGRAM win sideline passes to a Tennessee Titans football game and Page High School finds a new way to reward its TOP READERS.  Plus, be sure and check out the IN FOCUS PHOTO GALLERY, which features snapshots from schools across the district.  And find out which Williamson County students were recently honored with AWARDS & ACCOLADES.

We hope you enjoy all this issue of IN FOCUS has to offer.  Please encourage others to SIGN UP for IN FOCUS so they can keep on top of what's going on inside Williamson County Schools.  All they need to do is send us an EMAIL letting us know they'd like to begin receiving IN FOCUS.  The next issue will be released January 12.
