ISSUE 12
January 26, 2012

IN THIS ISSUE...

This week's issue of IN FOCUS is full of important information including a preview of next week's TCAP WRITING Assessment, a list of OPEN ZONED schools for the 2012-13 school year and the dates and times for KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION.  We'll also tell you about plans for a new WALKWAY that will help students in Spring Hill get to school safely.

The Williamson County School Board recently completed their EVALUATION of Superintendent Looney.  We'll show you the results.  Some of the other stories you'll find in this issue include the results of a recent WCS FUNDING SURVEY, a list of teachers who earned NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFICATION and a video highlighting Fairview Elementary School's new INTERNATIONAL CLUB.

High schools are full of activity this time of year.  We'll tell you about a recent COMPETITION that had students at Brentwood High School acting out scenes from Hamlet.  Plus, Summit High School's media program has a brand new look thanks to a major donation from WKRN NEWS 2.  And speaking of Summit High, we have an important reminder for sophomores there who are interested in DUAL ENROLLMENT opportunities.

As always, we love to shine a light on all of the wonderful accomplishments of Williamson County students.  Our AWARDS & ACCOLADES section highlights many of those achievements.  You can also read all about the latest students to be named ACADEMIC ALL-STARS.  Plus, the winners of this year's SCHOLASTIC ART AWARDS were recently announced, and it's no surprise that dozens of Williamson County students were honored.

Don't forget to check out our RUMOR MILL section where we address questions sent to us by the public.  We also have some helpful tips for AVOIDING THE FLU this winter and information on how you can be part of the district's annual ACTIVITY CONTEST.

We hope you enjoy all this issue of IN FOCUS has to offer.  Please encourage others to SIGN UP for IN FOCUS so they can keep on top of what's going on inside Williamson County Schools.  All they need to do is send us an EMAIL letting us know they'd like to begin receiving IN FOCUS.  The next issue will be released February 9.
