ISSUE 15
March 8, 2012

IN THIS ISSUE...

The month of March is finally here, bringing with it warmer weather, longer days and the official start of spring.  Students will be out of school Friday, March 9 due to staff development.  Less than two weeks later, all high school juniors will take the ACT EXAM, which is not only the nation's most widely accepted college entrance exam, but also a graduation requirement for Williamson County students.

This issue of IN FOCUS features several video stories.  In the first one, WCS Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney has some additional information for parents about the district's BYOT INITIATIVE.  Then, we'll travel to Brentwood where students at Crockett Elementary are learning to speak a NEW LANGUAGE thanks to an exciting after-school program.  There's no shortage of enthusiasm at TRINITY ELEMENTARY School these days.  We'll show you some of the new programs that have students at Trinity so enthralled.  Schools across the district recently celebrated the annual event known as READ ACROSS AMERICA Week. We'll show you some of the highlights.  Plus, fifth graders from Sunset Elementary got a taste of the working world when they traveled to JA BIZTOWN.  Last but not least, we'll introduce you to a local retiree who's spending his golden years as WCS MAINTENANCE VOLUNTEER.

Some of the other stories you'll find in this issue of IN FOCUS include a list of FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS regarding BYOT, information about TCAP and End-of-Course PRACTICE TESTS and tips for STAYING HEALTHY this cold and flu season.  We'll also tell you which Williamson County educator was recently named the Regional TEACHER OF THE YEAR, and highlight three new ACADEMIC ALL-STARS.  Plus, don't forget to check out the PHOTO GALLERY which features pictures from schools across the district, and you'll find information regarding spring plays in our MUSIC/THEATER section.

We hope you enjoy all this issue of IN FOCUS has to offer.  Please encourage others to SIGN UP for IN FOCUS so they can keep on top of what's going on inside Williamson County Schools.  All they need to do is send us an EMAIL letting us know they'd like to begin receiving IN FOCUS.  The next issue will be released March 22.
