March 22, 2012

The weather's warmer, the days are longer and that annual event known as Spring Break is right around the corner.  Williamson County students will attend school for a half-day Friday, March 30 due to teacher staff development.  Spring Break will begin April 2 and last through April 6.  Students will return to the classroom April 9.

This week's issue of IN FOCUS features two video stories.  The first one comes to us from Hillsboro School in Leiper's Fork where students are enjoying the opportunity to be part of the school's brand new BAND PROGRAM.  Then, we'll travel to the western part of the county to show you how teachers at Fairview High School are using LATE START DAYS to improve instruction for students.

Some of the other stories you'll find in this issue of IN FOCUS include an update on the BUDGET PROCESS, information about SUMMER CAMPS and details regarding plans for a new WALKING TRAIL in Spring Hill.  Plus, you may have seen them in your neighborhood.  We'll explain the reason behind the dozens of YARD SIGNS that are popping up all around Brentwood.  With the start of Spring Break just a little over a week away, we have some great information for high school students who are looking for things to do in our monthly COUNSELOR CONNECTS section.

Also in this issue, we'll tell you how Williamson County students are using the excitement surrounding the new movie HUNGER GAMES to help feed the needy in Middle Tennessee, and explain how parents can register their child for the first annual MR. & MISS FRANKLIN PAGEANT.  We'll also highlight dozens of wonderful accomplishments in our STUDENT SPOTLIGHT and AWARDS & ACCOLADES sections, and reveal the district's three newest ACADEMIC ALL-STARS.  And don't forget to check out the RUMOR MILL to find out what people are talking about.

We hope you enjoy all this issue of IN FOCUS has to offer.  Please encourage others to SIGN UP for IN FOCUS so they can keep on top of what's going on inside Williamson County Schools.  All they need to do is send us an EMAIL letting us know they'd like to begin receiving IN FOCUS.  The next issue will be released April 12.
