August 18, 2011

The 2011-12 school year is off to a great start in Williamson County.  Over 32,000 students returned to the classroom for a half day Thursday, August 11, and IN FOCUS was there to capture all of the excitement.  We interviewed students, parents, teachers and principals from all over the district to get their thoughts about the FIRST DAY of school.

The latest ACT SCORES were released August 17.  We'll tell you how each high school - and the district as a whole - performed on this year's exam.  Some of the other stories you'll find in this issue include a clarification regarding school BUS ROUTES, an important message for the parents of HOMESCHOOLED children and a list of schools who were recognized at the First Annual Superintendent's Banquet with AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE.

It's always a good idea for parents to get to know their child's teacher.  That's one reason why schools across the district will be having OPEN HOUSE events in the coming days.  Plus, there's nothing quite like high school football.  We'll tell you which teams will square off THIS WEEKEND.

Williamson County Schools welcomed more than 200 new teachers this year.  We caught up with some of them at the district's NEW TEACHER ORIENTATION and asked them to share their thoughts about the upcoming school year.  Plus, the district held RIBBON CUTTINGS for two new schools August 7.  We'll take you inside each building for the historic ceremony.  And you'll definitely want to check out our new series of fun and educational videos called LUNCH LESSONS WITH LIBBY.

We hope you enjoy all this issue of IN FOCUS has to offer.  Please encourage others to sign up for IN FOCUS so they can keep on top of what's going on inside Williamson County Schools.  All they need to do is send us an EMAIL letting us know they'd like to begin receiving IN FOCUS.  The next issue will be released September 1.
