 June 28, 2012

Hundreds of Williamson County students are staying busy this summer by participating in all sorts of fun and engaging activities.  In this issue of IN FOCUS, we'll take you behind the scenes of some of the district's most exciting camps including KIDS ON STAGE, ENCORE and GIRLS TEC CAMP.  Plus, we'll show you how Brentwood High School is preparing freshmen for the upcoming school year through their TRANSITION ACADEMY.

We also have two very important videos to share regarding the district's Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) initiative.  The first one provides a BYOT OVERVIEW, which includes a look at the various types of devices that will be permitted.  In the second video, we'll address some of the ways BYOT will be used in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CLASSROOMS.

The district's brand new KIOSK is now open at CoolSprings Galleria.  Find out which WCS staff members will be on hand to answer questions.  Also in this issue, a WARNING FROM WCS, an update on a planned WALKING TRAIL in Spring Hill, and information about the district's newest BYOT VENDOR partners.  Plus, more students than ever before will observe LATE START DAYS this year.  We'll explain.  And families in need will have access to free school supplies at this year's BIG BACKPACK GIVEAWAY.

Want to know the latest regarding a new Nolensville area high school?  Check out the RUMOR MILL.  The state's annual SALES TAX HOLIDAY is rapidly approaching.  We'll tell you when shoppers can expect to save 10 percent on their back to school purchases.  And there's still time for students in grades 7-9 to sign up for next month's SUMMER MATH ACADEMY.  We'll explain how.

In other news, Page High School is getting some NATIONAL ATTENTION for all the right reasons.  Plus, Williamson County students won numerous state championships at this year's Spring Fling.  We'll honor them in this week's STUDENT SPOTLIGHT.  And don't forget to check out our AWARDS & ACCOLADES section where we recognize students for their accomplishments in the areas of academics, athletics and the arts.

We hope you enjoy all this issue of IN FOCUS has to offer. Please encourage others to sign up for IN FOCUS so they can keep on top of what's going on inside Williamson County Schools. All they need to do is send us an EMAIL letting us know they'd like to begin receiving IN FOCUS.  The next issue will come out July 19.
