Identifying Students with Disabilities

September 1, 2011

We are three weeks into the 2011-12 school year and things are off to a fantastic start.  As the official start of autumn approaches, there are a few things parents should keep in mind: Friday, September 2 will be a half day for students due to staff development; there will be no school September 5 due to Labor Day; PROGRESS REPORTS will be sent home next week; and the first parent teacher conferences will be held in October.

This issue of IN FOCUS features three video stories.  In the first one, we'll take you to Page Middle School and show you how Principal Dr. Eric Lifsey celebrated the school's improvement on the annual TCAP TEST.  Then, it's off to Kenrose Elementary School where parents gathered August 22 for a special event called the BOO HOO BREAKFAST.  And lastly, take a second or two to check out the unbelievable start to the football season for the district's newest team, SUMMIT HIGH.

Some of the other stories you'll find in this issue of IN FOCUS include details regarding a new program that lets students bring their own TECHNOLOGY to school and information about this year's EXHIBITION OF BANDS.  We'll also tell you about several other exciting events including Scales Elementary School's annual MUSTANG CLOSET, the RUN FOR INDEPENDENCE 5K and an upcoming FORENSICS CAMP.  And don't forget to check out this week's edition of the RUMOR MILL where we answer questions regarding student fees, the TCAP test and the amount of time students are given for lunch.

As always, we love to celebrate the wonderful accomplishments of Williamson County students.  That's why we encourage you to check out this week's STUDENT SPOTLIGHT and AWARDS & ACCOLADES sections.  Plus, find out why a group of Bethesda Elementary students are being celebrated for their GENEROSITY.

We hope you enjoy all this issue of IN FOCUS has to offer.  Please encourage others to sign up for IN FOCUS so they can keep on top of what's going on inside Williamson County Schools.  All they need to do is send us an EMAIL letting us know they'd like to begin receiving IN FOCUS.  The next issue will be released September 15.
